Lena "Fae" Slaughter Humphrey of Richwood, passed away Friday, December 20, 2013.


She was born July 22, 1927 to the late Gordon and Lena (Moore) Slaughter in Freeport, Texas.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Gordon Slaughter, Jr.; her grandsons, Michael Henry and Stephen Moore.


Survivors include Bobby Slaughter, of Tyler; her sister, June Johse, of Lake Jackson; her daughters, Charlotte Moore, of Austin and Cynthia Henry, of Richwood; granddaughters, Stacey Moore, of Austin, Julie Zamora, of Freeport, Melinda Henry, of Temple and Sabrina Henry, of Austin; great granddaughter, Jaira Means and great grandson, Jackson Henry, plus a large extended family.


She was a dedicated member of the Audubon Society and volunteered many years at the High Island Bird Sanctuary. She was lovingly known as the "Hummingbird Lady"


Memorial service and reception will be held on Satuday, December 28, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Lake Jackson Civic Center - Terrace Room with Larry Henry officiating.

I am so sorry I will not be able to attend the memorial service. I am the compiler for the Brazoria Christmas Bird Count being held at that time. Faye was a good friend and a dedicated birder. I remember the time when she had hundreds of strangers from all over coming to her house to see a rare hummingbird. Of course they were not strangers to her.
