Demetrice Lindsey, 91, of Lake Jackson, TX entered into peace with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 2013, at her home. She was born March 17, 1922 in Tyler, TX to Dock and Minnie Bynum. Demetrice graduated from Tyler High School in 1939, attended Tyler Junior College, and graduated from the Western Union School in Springfield, Missouri. In her young adult years, she was employed as a receptionist at Mother Francis Catholic Hospital in Tyler; as a telephone operator in Freeport, TX; and for Western Union in Orange, TX. She always strove to look sharp and dress impeccably; consequently, shopping was one of her favorite things. Demetrice had a keen mind and amazing memory, right up to the end of her life. Most of all, she was a wonderful mother and grandmother and was a very generous person who loved to give gifts.

She married another native Texan, A. L. (Loye) Lindsey, in 1948 in Casper, Wyoming, and they were married 58 years until his death in 2006. They lived in Idaho and Nevada while Loye was employed in the nuclear power industry; they moved from Las Vegas, Nevada, to Lake Jackson in 1965.

Demetrice was preceded in death by her parents, Dock and Minnie Bynum of Tyler, TX; sister, Burma Lee Lively (and husband Ben) of Wills Point, TX; brothers, Morris Bynum and Bobby Clay Bynum of Tyler, TX; brother, Arkard Bynum (and wife Bessie) of Wills Point, TX; teenage sister, Joleen Bynum; a baby brother; and nephew, Steven Wayne Smith of Pahrump, NV.

She is survived by her only child, Patricia Ann Rushing (and husband Dennis) of Lake Jackson, TX; her only grandchild, Lindsey Ann Rushing of Denver, CO, with whom she shared a very special relationship; brother, Horace Bynum (and wife Bobbie) of Rusk, TX; sister, Natha Lee Smith of Las Vegas, NV; niece, Judy Ann Artmann (and husband Mark) of Henderson, NV; and niece, Sharon Harper (and husband Tom) also of Henderson, NV. Over the years, she remained especially close to Natha, Sharon, and Judy and always spoke fondly of their times together in Nevada.

Mrs. Lindsey and her family want to extend special thanks to Carmen for always being so nice to her over the years and to the Hospice Care Team, Inc. (HCT) of Joni, Iris, and Rosa for the loving care they provided to her.

Funeral Services will be held at Lakewood Funeral Chapel, 98 N. Dixie Dr., Lake Jackson, TX on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the service time on Sunday.
