A.G. Snelgrove went to be with the Lord & Savior on Monday February 10, 2014.
A.G. was born on March 31, 1914 to Rev. L.J. & Jessie Mae Snelgrove in Meridan Mississippi. He was the oldest son of 5 children.
While growing up A.G. worked alongside his father and brother "fixing up" church's where they were assisgned hence his training in all aspects of handy work.
After his education at Sunflower Junior College, A.G. moved to Louise, Mississippi where he managed a plantation. In Louise was where he met and married Frances Ogden. During their engagement and subsequent marriage A.G. was drafted and served as a Sargent in the Dixie Division of the US Army in World War II.
After the war A.G. & Frances settled in Louise where he continued farming. In 1953 the decision was made to move to Lake Jackson where AG went to work for the Dow Chemical Company.
In 1976 he retired from Dow which was when his life truly began.
After many years of traveling the United States and playing golf one day AG decided he needed to do something more productive with his life.
That is when his volunteer work began. He had always been a faithful volunteer with First United Methodist Church in Lake Jackson but wanted to use the carpentry talents from his early age to help others.
Thus his volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity began, using his God given talents to help others gave A.G. a feeling that he was now giving to others that had not been as fortunate as he. It was his work at Habitat that led A.G. to be nominated and a finalist for Citizen of the year in 1998.
During this time A.G. also volunteered at Sea Center Texas and the Lake Jackson Historical Museum.
A.G. is survived by his wife of 71 year, Frances, son Greg and wife Pam of Fredericksburg, Tx Daughters Jeanette and husband Kenneth of Meridan, Tx and Cindy of Rockport, Tx. 5 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by daughter Beverly King. His parents and 4 siblings.
Pallbearers will be: Bill Cox, Andy Wheeler, Tommy Kerr, Butch Munerlyn, Gilbert Bohuslav, Bruce Newman & Great Grandson Hunter King.
Visitation will be from 2:00pm Thursday February 13, 2014 at Chapelwood Methodist Church
Funeral Services will be at 3pm Thursday February 13, 2014 at Chapelwood Methodist Church in Lake Jackson.
Family request memorials be made to: Habitat for Humanity oe the First United Methodist Church of Lake Jackson, Texas

Heaven has gained another saint. What a wonderful person and servant for the Lord. The world would be a better place if there were more people like A.G. He will truly be missed here on earth, but what a wonderful feeling to know that now A.G. is with his Lord and Savior. Sincere sympathy to all the family.

Our love and sympathy goes out to Jeanette and Ken and the boys, and Mrs. Snelgrove and the rest of the family. What a great life story the obituary tells...almost 100 years old and still serving His Lord as a servant to the less fortunate. What a legacy!

Love and prayers for comfort as you say your temporary good byes to one of God's most faithful servants. Heaven is nearer and dearer because A.G. is now there with a host of family and friends. It was an honor to have known him and to call him friend.

Mrs. Snelgrove, Jeanette and Cindy:
I'm just so sorry to hear about your husband and dad. Please take comfort knowing it's only a temporary separation - but I know that and I'm still missing mine! You are three of my favorite women in the world and I wish I could attend the service tomorrow - but am not able. I'll plan to come down Sunday and will call before I take out. I love you all,
Sally

My thoughts are with you Mrs. Snelgrove ,as well for Greg, Jeanette and Cindy. I'm pleased to have seen and chatted with you and A G last July after the class reunion, He'd just renewed his drivers license at that time. I still consider you as another "mom", I carry some great memories of LJ and living on Laurel. Heart felt condolences for your loss.
