Wilmer Mike Gaubatz
Wilmer Mike Gaubatz, of Lake Jackson, Texas passed peacefully on June 16, 2014 after battling with Alzheimer's disease.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Etta Joyce Hancock; three daughters, Connie Gaubatz, Sheryl Broaddus (Mark), Donna Leist (Danny); son, Michael Gaubatz (Kelley); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also has four siblings; Evelyn Freund, Clifton Gaubatz, Dennis Gaubatz and the late Dorothy Tompkins.
Wilmer was born 88 years ago in Needville, Texas to Mike Gaubatz and Bertha Crist.
After graduating from Richmond High School in 1943, he volunteered his service to our country and trained as a pilot with the U. S. Air Force.
At the end of WWII he returned to Needville, Texas where he found the love of his life, Etta Joyce, better known as "Sugar Babe".
He enjoyed going fishing and working in his yard and garden. He also loved his pecan trees and generously shared the fruits of his labor with his family and friends. He will always be remembered as "Our Hero", because of the honorable way he served his country, the unselfish way he lived his life, and the everlasting love he showed for his family.
Visitors are welcome on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Jackson, Texas.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Chapel. Wilmer will be laid to rest by his family in Needville, Texas.
