Connie Jean Gaubatz, of Angleton, Texas passed unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at the age of 64. Connie is survived by her mother, Etta Joyce Gaubatz, of Lake Jackson; sister, Sheryl Broaddus (Mark), of Freeport, sister, Donna Leist (Danny), of Lake Jackson; and brother, Michael Gaubatz (Kelley), of Huntsville. She has three nephews; two nieces; seven great-nieces; and four great-nephews.
Connie grew up in Lake Jackson and after graduating from Brazosport High School class of 1968, she attended Stephen F. Austin University. She spent the next phase of her life working in Houston, Texas. It was there that she found her life long passion for helping others. She volunteered with wheelchair bound individuals and was instrumental in helping them obtain wheelchair accessible sidewalks, bathrooms, and housing in Houston. These efforts set the foundation for passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Her experience and leadership later led to her employment with the Social Security Administration where she continued to assist individuals in need.
Upon retirement, Connie enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, going to the beach, and sleeping late. To know Connie was to know that her special gift was her kind heart and compassion for others. She will be greatly missed by family, friends, and anyone that was fortunate enough to know her.
A memorial service will be held at Lakewood Funeral Chapel, 98 N. Dixie Drive, Lake Jackson, Texas on Saturday, October 18, at 2:00 p.m.
The family requests donations be made in Connie's memory to: Memorial Hermann Foundation, Benefitting Mischer Neuroscience Institute, 929 Gessner, Suite 2650, Houston, TX 77024.

I just learned today of Connie's passing. I'd been trying to reach her for about a month when someone thought to check Google. I'm saying this as an apology for not having attended her funeral. Connie is a dear, sweet person who loved her family so very, very much. She had such a kind heart. Please know she was loved and she is missed. Please let me know you got this message. I am so saddened by her passing, but I know she is rejoicing with her daddy.

My heart is heavy at the loss of my beloved and cherished friend. From the moment we met over 40 years ago, we became like sisters. Connie's kindness, thoughtfulness and sincerity were never ending. She was warm and loving. She had a huge heart and willingly shared it with others...never expecting anything in return. She saw the good in everyone and only wanted the best for all she knew.
Connie I will miss you terribly. I know you are in heaven but it is still hard. George and I love you dearly.

For Connie's family.....I'm so very sorry for your loss. She was a doting daughter, loving sister, and a great aunt. God Bless you all! My heart hurts for the loss of this wonderful friend! Connie and me have known each other since about first grade. We were always friends but truly connected as "sisters" about 4-5 years ago. She is one of "our Girlie Girlfriends". From the luncheons to the road trips Connie was always such a great friend to all of us. We were supposed to go on the BHS cruise in 2016 and be parasailing partners! I'll miss doing that with her. Always smiling, always there for all of us that needed her.......and you know what.....We were there for her, too because that's what Girlfriends do for each other! A Guardian Angel for the Girlfriends. I love you, Connie! See you when it's time! xoxoxo
