She inherited a love of nature and the outdoors from her father, and enjoyed many hunting trips and wildlife viewing outings with her family. Julie would beam when describing the wildlife she observed, and she especially enjoyed the camaraderie of an evening campfire.
She met David Scannell while attending Sul Ross University, and they were married on June 6, 1981. They raised three children; Jessica, Emily and Brent.
Julie passed away on November 17, 2014 following a year-and-a-half battle with cancer. During that time, Julie's courage was demonstrated as never before―even more than during her thrilling adventure down a Class 4+ whitewater river in Idaho.
Julie was a compassionate and loving person, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband David; daughters Jessica Scannell and Emily and husband Andrew Jimenez; son Brent Scannell; brother Stuart and wife Frances Wolfe; and nephews and nieces (Timothy Wolfe, Terina Scannell, and Tara Henderson)
Memorial will be held on Friday November 21,2014 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson Tx at 2 pm.

Dave, Jessica, Emily and Brent,
My sister Mary and I met Julie (my sister called her Baby Julie) over 35 years ago while attending Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. Julie was one of our oldest and dearest friends and I was able to visit with her on the phone quite often all these many years later and thankfully I spoke with her several weeks ago. I will miss her dearly and our conversations. On behalf of the Dewell family please accept our deepest sympathy on the loss of a beautiful human being. God Bless the Scannell family and God Bless Julie.
