John Calvin Patterson
On t he afternoon of Friday, May 29, our Lord and Savior stretched His loving hands from Heaven and escorted John Calvin Patterson (age 85) to the Pearly Gates to be reunited with his Lillie Mae "Bobbi" Patterson, his beloved wife of 56 years.
Known to so many by various names, "Bleu", JC, Jack, Judge, "the ump from Jones Creek,"but his favorite name was "Papaw."
Patterson left so many good memories behind for so many. Always known for his quick wit and humor, there was never a dull moment for those who had the honor of being in his presence. Many years ago, 45 to be exact, when the "Apple of his eye." daughter Sharon was dating her future husband, he opened his house and arms to Myron, virtually every day. While the new lovebirds would sit around gazing at each other as others watched television, Mr. Patterson had his way of calling it a night."
He would look at his wife and say, "Bob, we had better go to bed so Myron can go home."
Memories of his humor go back many more years than that and never ceased until he was escorted to Heaven. The kids can all remember the long trips to East Texas with the windows all down (that was the air conditioning back in those days). And then all of a sudden, he would point out to the road while driving and say...."What is that in the road....a head?"
Known as"Bleu" , Patterson was a loyal employee of Dow Chemical Company and certainly loved and respected by those who worked with or for him. He worked almost 33 years before retiring in 1982 to enjoy life with his wife. Ironically he was retired as many years as he worked. He and his best friend, Lillie Mae, didn't waste a minute of it, traveling all over the country and sharing so many great memories.
In her last days when Bobbi became ill and had to be placed in a nursing home, Jack spent his days driving to see her and making sure she was fed and taken care of. The great bond th! at the two had never ended, not even after her passing in 2006.
While missing his wife he still managed to keep going, working as a Jones Creek Judge. He was known around the local courthouse as being firm, but at the same time a man who showed compassion for those who deserved it.
Before he was a Judge he was known to many around Jones Creek for umpiring pee wee and little league baseball, something all three of his sons, Johnny, Alan and Clyde were once involved in.
In his last days he spent precious time loving and being loved by his kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren, including the newest member to the Patterson bunch, Madelyn (eight months), a young lady he loved visiting and bragging about her beautiful smile. He stated many times that he needed to call Derek and tell him Madelyn is about ready for her Papaw to hold her again.
A member of Calvary Baptist Church in Jones Creek for many years, Jack always made sure his children were in church every Sunday! . In his last years with Calvary church gone, he claimed Family Life Church as his place of worship.
Last year after an accident and surgery, Patterson lived at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Lake Jackson. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Elmcroft for making their dad a part of the "Elmcroft" family, and for such awesome personal care. "Dad" often bragged saying "They are really good to me here. These are great people". The personal touch made Elmcroft feel like more "home". The staff residents became like family to the entire Patterson family.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, June 1 at Family Life Church in Lake Jackson, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 2 at Family Life Church, with Pastor Craig Taylor officiating.
Interment will be at Gulf Prairie Cemetery in Jones Creek.
Patterson was preceeded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae ("Bobbie"), mother, Hazel! Lee Cooper, father, Joe Patterson and sister, Joann Whitehead.
