Velma Rae Shiflet

Velma Rae Shiflet was born on June 26, 1932, in Grimes County, Texas. and went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 29, 2015, at the age of 82 in Clute, Texas , with family at her side.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Katie Small; sister, Lillie Mae Buckalew; brother, James Small; and grandchildren, Calvin Shiflet Jr. and Casey Munk.


She is survived by her husband of 65 years, J.R. Shiflet; daughter, Brenda Finley and husband, Norman; son, Calvin Shiflet and wife, Susan; daughter, Carolyn Clifton; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Hudson; aunt, Florine Shiflet ; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends and church family.


She enjoyed fishing and camping at Lake Sam Rayburn and looked forward to the trips each year. She sewed and made quilts for her family and friends and loved to read her bible and listen to gospel music. She thought the world of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved to spend time with them and her family.


She will be greatly missed and will be remembered always.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Dwight Finley, Jimmy Clifton, Jake Finley and Troy Fernandez , and her great-grandsons , Cory Orchard, Joey Wilkinson, Rowdy Wilkinson and Jacob Clifton.


Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel.


Memorial services will be Wednesday, June 3, 2015 , at the Rock Church in Clute at 9:00 a.m. Burial services will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Pankey Cemetery in Bedias, Texas.
