Curt loved to fly; so much that he built his own biplane (a 'Baby Great Lakes' model) and flew it for many years. In 1942 he had the proud honor of being named Master of the Will Rogers Masonic Lodge in Claremore, Oklahoma. Curt served his county proudly in the United States Navy as a signalman aboard the USN General M.M. Patrick (AP-150). In 1980, Curt retired from Dow Chemical after more than 30 years of work, and loved every minute of his retirement.
curt was a loving family man; he loved his children, his grandchildren, his beautiful and caring wife, and he would often tell his family that he planned to live to be 100 years old. He almost made it.
Curt is preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Shirley Wetherell.
Curt is survived by his wife, Ruth Alberta Wetherell; his son, Curtis Otto (Sherry) Wetherell; grandsons, Tim (Monica Baker) Wetherell and Mark Wetherell; granddaughter, Janice Coleman; great-granddaughters, Becky, Alexa, and Gabrielle; great-grandsons, Aiden, Grayson, and Cyrus; one great great-granddaughter, Brandlee; and a daughter-in-law, Catherine Wetherell.
Curt will be missed by all his family and many friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Christ Lutheran Church of Lake Jackson, TX. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and funeral services conducted by Pastor Paul Geisler will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow at the church. Following funeral services, Curtis B. Wetherell will be laid to rest in Restwood Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church.

I'm so sorry about the passing of Mr.Wetherell. When we first joined Christ Lutheran, he and his wife Ruth were one of the first families we got to know. When I would see him, he would always be smiling and give me a hug. I never knew my grandfather so I guess he was like a substitute and a sweet one at that. I will miss him so much. Your family was so lucky to have him.

I know Curtis will be missed by all. He was such a friendly man and loving husband. No one was a stranger to Curtis. He epitomized the meaning of being a Christian - always a friendly smile, a warm handshake and some interesting conversation.
Please accept our most heartfelt condolences at his passing.

Ruth, my heart is heavy with our loss of such a special gentleman. I don't think I ever saw Curtis without his 100 watt smile. I am grateful to have been a small part of his journey. God's peace to you and all your family.
