John Michael Neuerburg

August 13, 1952 - August 23, 2015

  • Obituary
  • Guestbook
John passed away on August 23, 2015, while fishing with his son in Surfside Beach, Texas.

He was born to the late Leonard and Louise Neuerburg on August 13, 1952, in Freeport, Texas. John grew up in Baytown and Freeport, and graduated from Brazosport High School in 1970. Two years later, he wed his high school sweetheart, the late Gail Neuerburg. They were married for over 40 years.

John graduated from Lamar University in 1976, where he played baseball, a sport he loved and shared with his children. Soon after, he started his own company, J&G Electric, where he worked as an electrician while he attended Texas Chiropractic College. He graduated in 1980.

Together with his wife, Gail, John opened his first practice of chiropractic in 1981, in Atascosita, Texas. They later moved his practice to Lake Jackson in 1986, to be closer to family where he worked until the day he died. His son, Chris Neuerburg, will continue the practice.

John loved hunting, fishing, and telling stories about the good ol' baseball days. He lived by his motto, "The most important thing in life is to be happy." He loved helping people through his practice, and his jovial, easy going character was loved by many in the community.

He is survived by his two children, Chris and Nicole; sisters, Jean Carrell, Lois Horton; and brother, Leonard Neuerburg. He has two grandsons, Gus and Hank.

Memorial services for John will be held at the Freeport Community House, located at 1300 West Second Street in Freeport, Texas at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2015.

A celebration of his life will follow in the same location. Beer, tea, and finger foods will be served. BYOB.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Brazoria County, an organization his father helped found in 1972.

Family of John Neuerburg - Unfortunately I did not know John, but I was fortunate to have been in the graduating Class of 1953 from Brazosport High School in Freeport, Texas. John's sister Jean Neuerburg Carroll was a friend and classmate.

My sincere sympathy to the family as they daily miss the presence of John in their lives. May the Lord be your guide and your comforter.

Dr. John and I worked together helping injured people for many years. He was very compassionate towards his patients and very friendly and professional in all of our dealings. He was a happy person and a great doctor. He believed and lived the adage "...a day without laughter is a wasted day..." I will miss his joyous personality and his friendship.

I am heartbroken to hear that you moved on to now help angels with their back problems.
Every time I came to the practice (even on my trips from Germany) I was always helped and had good and fun conversations.
Dr. John, you will be greatly missed.

Neuerburg Family,
Dr. John graduated a year before me from Texas Chiropractic College and I was honored to be a co-member of Pi Kappa Chi Fraternity with him. Dr. John's enthusiasm for life and terrific smile brightened every event and he never lost this throughout his 35 years of practice.
I know his patients loved him, because he truly cared for those with whom he came in contact.
The last time Dr. John visited my office, he was traveling to watch his son's sporting event. His family was truly most important to him.
While his impact will be missed, with his profession and family, it is most important to remember, he is one of the individuals WHO ACTUALLY MADE AN IMPACT! Dr. John will never be forgotten. Thanks John for being my friend.

I can not believe that this is real. John was so full of life and always brought a smile to my face whenever I saw him. Chris and Nicole I know that you guys know that your Dad loved you more than words can express and that many of us will miss him very much. I will never think about our years of softball without remembering John sitting on a bucket catching Nicole. John you will be missed but I know you are in Heaven with the love of your life Gail. Until we all meet again...

John Mike was a teammate and friend. He was an important member of the 1970 Brazosport Exporter baseball team in our playoff run to the state regional finals against Bellaire. That was the last athletic team to represent a unified Brazosport Independent School District. My prayers are with his family.
