Margaret Brewer

Margaret Duffy Brewer, 96, of Lake Jackson passed away Saturday July 2, 2016 at Country Village Care in Angleton surrounded by family and friends. Margaret was born in Blessing, Texas on April 18, 1920 to Irene Matlock Duffy and Henry Duffy. She was the second of three girls. The oldest was Vivian and the youngest was Nancy. The family lived in Bay City where the girls went to school. On June 27, 1942 she married Rufus H. Brewer of West Columbia. On February 12, 1944 she enlisted in the Navy as her husband was then in the Navy "SEABEES" and she served in the "Waves" until November 16, 1945. After the war Margaret and Rufus moved to Freeport and he resumed his job with The Dow Chemical Company in the purchasing department. On October 15, 1946 their only child was born, a son Ronald (Ron) William Brewer. Margaret had a busy life as wife and mother and worked part time occasionally in drafting. After Rufus passed away October 3, 1983, Margaret worked for her long time friends "Clyde Cone Real Estate", and proudly told people that "I worked in real estate until I was 85 years old". She had a very long and active life and enjoyed staying busy. Her favorite pastime was playing Duplicate Bridge with her friends, talking politics, campaigning for political candidates and was active in the First United Methodist Church of Lake Jackson. She is preceded in death by her husband Rufus and her beloved son Ron. She is survived by her nephew Larry Hunt and family of Angleton, her nephew George Pugh Jr. and family of Alvin, her daughter-in-law Jackie Brewer of Lake Jackson, family in Fairhope, Alabama and Brewer nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their thanks to "Country Village Care" and "AMED Hospice" for their compassionate care and understanding. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Lake Jackson on Thursday July 7, 2016. Visitation will be at the church at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., followed by a graveside ceremony at The Columbia Cemetery in West Columbia. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the First United Methodist Church of Lake Jackson or a charity of your choice. "May she rest in peace in the arms of the Lord"
