Diane Johnson

Diane (Holsonbake) Johnson earned her angel wings with her family by her side on October 1, 2016. She fought a valiant fight to recover from a January 2015 horrific traffic accident but succumbed to complications from a recent fall. Diane was born to William B and Mattie Lee (Carver) Holsonbake in McKinney, Texas on October 27, 1941. She was raised in Hughes Springs, Texas where she met her high school sweetheart and lifetime partner, Floyd Johnson. Their romance began in 1955 with marriage in 1960. After a short stint in Austin, Texas they settled in Lake Jackson in 1964 where they grew roots and raised a family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and faithful friend. They joined Jaycees where they made lifelong friends that were an active part of their world today. Through the years, she was active and held officer positions with the Junior Service League, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Confederacy, PEO and several other ladies organizations. She was an active and faithful member of the Lake Jackson First United Methodist Church. Diane was devoted to her family which was her pride and joy. She was the family "glue" and matriarch. She enjoyed making a celebration out of the smallest events, always with good food and laughter. She doted on her "Angel Babies" (grandchildren) who, in their younger days, frequently spent weekends playing and enjoying sleepovers that included reading, board games, swimming in the pool, late night movies, skits, etc. Regardless of the grandkids age/maturity she would always ask them after church, "Are you going to come over to play?" Her children and grandchildren were her great joy and pleasure as evidenced by her frequent presence at all their events. She gave her children and grandchildren her love for the water. Water was the central theme of most every family gathering and vacation which included her pool and floating the Comal River during annual trips to New Braunfels, TX. She could be cajoled by the grandkids to go on some of the wild water rides with them at Schlitterbahn. She even enjoyed camping at Garner State Park, playing in the river during the day and dancing at night. When family wanted to go on adventures that were not her cup of tea, she would simply say, "I go where you all go". Many of her children's friends considered her their "second mom". Diane had a way of making those around her feel especially loved, needed and understood; always the willing ear and conversationalist. The Aggie Spirit resonated within Diane. Having grown up in an Aggie home, she ensured this legacy continued with her children and grandchildren. The Aggie War Hymn could be frequently heard echoing within her home. She enjoyed cruises with the family and traveling with friends making numerous trips to Mexico's beaches and Europe. A Saturday night "date" with Floyd was a standing rule. If she loved you, she had very high expectations for you and would support you to be your best. She would often say, "Be Reet" which was short for "Act Right and Be Sweet". Diane expected much of those she loved but gave a great deal more. She was an avid and meticulous homemaker and gardener, who enjoyed hosting a variety of events. Guests were often in awe of her well-manicured flower beds, lawn and home. Diane embraced life with passion, gusto and style. She was vibrant, vivacious, and energetic; often considered the "life of the party". She did it all with grace and a unique southern charm. She will be greatly missed. Along with her many friends, left to cherish her memory are her adoring husband of 55 years, Floyd Johnson, son David Johnson (wife Kelly), daughter, Angela Pearson (husband Tom), grandchildren: Megan Johnson, TC Pearson, Jared Pearson, Kathleen Tinnon (husband Mike) , Suzanne Sauter, great-grandchildren: Carson Romero, Piper Demland, and River Sauter and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation with family will be on Friday, October 7, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Both events will be held at The First United Methodist Church of Lake Jackson.
