Gordon "Smitty" William Smith
9/13/1922 - 3/1/2017

Gordon W. Smith (Smitty), age 94, passed away peacefully at Elmcroft Assisted Living on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, in Lake Jackson, Texas. He was a resident of Lake Jackson for over seventy years. Smitty served in the army during World War II and was stationed overseas for four years. On returning, he was stationed in Hot Springs, Arkansas, where he met and married Doris Brown in 1945. They were married for 60 plus years. Smitty was an avid craftsman who could build anything from nothing. Smitty was preceded in death by his parents, Ola Laura and Pez Edward Smith and three older sisters, Gladys, Ivory, and Jewel, older brothers Roy and B. F., and younger brother Gene. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews, one sister-in-law, Nina Smith, and his friend and caregiver Jeanette Sciba. Pallbearers will be Bill Emerson, Cade Emerson, Louis Sciba, Donald Sciba, Russell Sciba, and Yesukai Benayon. Honorary pallbearers will be all residents, past and present, of Lantana Court. Jeanette wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Elmcroft Assisted Living and AMED Hospice. An extra thank you to Ann and Pastor Thomas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA of Brazoria County, 141 Canna Ln., Lake Jackson, Texas 77566. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until 2 P.M., with graveside services on Friday, March 3, at Lakewood Funeral Home.
