Douglas "Beenie" Mason Spradling
11/12/1944 - 5/3/2017
Mason was born in Bronx, NY then moved to Brownsville, Texas at an early age. He started working on shrimp boats at 16, until he was drafted by the Army from 1965-1967. He was a Lt. Wpns Infantryman. When he came home, he went back to shrimping and became a captain of the shrimp boat then later became Captain on Crew Boats. He loved riding his motorcycle and drinking cold beer. His family called him Beenie. Mason never met a stranger and helped anyone that needed help. Most of all, he had the most beautiful smile. He loved going to the casino to play Blackjack. He looked at his friends as family. His favorite saying was "to make a long story short…", though it never was short! He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Williams; dad, Bill Williams; sister, Luann Russell; and grandson, Dennie Vaughn Jr. He is survived by his wife, Pattie Spradling; daughters, Lora Wall (Billy), Billyann Morgan (Scott); sister, Tweedy Dickinson (Michael); brother-in-law, Jimmy Russell; step daughter, Heather Bullington; step son, Adam Simmons; Michael "Doc" Brown (Mimi) whom he loved as a brother; and good friend, Jack; numerous nephews and grandkids, and great-grandkids; and special friend, Linda Lamkins. A gathering in honor of Mason will be held May 27th, at 2:00 p.m. at the VFW in Clute, 238 Johnson-Cook Rd. To Steve Bope - he still didn't like you. He is greatly missed.
