Freddie Lloyd Holder

Frederick (Freddie) L. Holder Ph.D., born in Freeport, TX on February 5, 1930, passed away on June 4, 2017. His parents were Newman Shirl (Fred) Holder and Alma Ruth Holder nee Lang. Fred was a scholar, theologian, philosopher, teacher, author, athlete, musician, and world traveler, excelling in all of these endeavors. He was a graduate of Freeport High School class of 1948, his beloved Baylor University, and earned his doctorate from the University of Iowa. Fred spoke and read many languages. He taught at the collegiate level and was Associate Dean at Simpson College. After retirement, he collaborated with local teachers to compile a history of the Brazosport Independent School District called "The Antecedents and Early History of BISD". He loved singing with his beautiful voice and playing the trumpet. Fred was an avid runner and tennis player. He volunteered to serve in the US Army during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Reba Bulin Holder; daughter, Angela Reid; son, Randy Reid (Becky); stepdaughters, Debbie Parker, Rhonda Fotjik, and Glenna Makovy (Roger); and sister, Verna Ruth Tannery; also numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren , all of whom he loved very much.
