Eleanor Frances Walker
4/17/1924 - 8/27/2017
Eleanor Daniels Walker passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2017. She was born on April 17, 1924, to Elmer and Laura Daniels in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She met her future husband, Robert (Bob) Walker, in her homeroom classroom at Kalamazoo High School and married him on March 29, 1947. They celebrated over 66 years of marriage before Bob's death in February 2014. Eleanor was a secretary at the Kalamazoo Gazette before becoming a full-time homemaker. Family was Eleanor's passion. She loved her husband, her children, and her grandchildren. Every action she took - whether it was a special meal, a special excursion, or just a simple conversation -showed her family how much she loved them. Eleanor had the exceptional gift of being able to converse with almost anyone and made life-long friends with many who she corresponded with over the years, initially with her beautiful hand writing and later through email. She was an avid reader of newspapers, user of Facebook, and had an incredible memory of events, people, and places. Eleanor enjoyed square dancing and traveling the United States with Bob in their recreational vehicles. Eleanor was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Lake Jackson since arriving in the area in 1965 when Bob was transferred by Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan, to Ethyl-Dow Chemical Company in Freeport. Left to cherish her memory are her children Robert C. (Bob) Walker, Jr. and wife Michele of Bay Harbor, Michigan, William J. (Bill) Walker and wife Patricia of Angleton, Richard D. (Dick) Walker and wife Patti of Friendswood and Cathleen A. Harvill and husband Chester of Cypress, and one sister, Mary Shaw of Michigan. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren, Gabriele (Mike) Leach, Ame (Shelby) Curlee, Mike Walker, Jacquie (Brian) Owens, Daniel (Maricruz) Walker, Kim (Chris) Davison, Lisa (John) Foster, Matthew (Ashley) Walker, Lindsay (Jonathan) Boudreaux and Brooke (Anthony) Hesson and 22 great-grandchildren, all who were a great source of pride for her and brought immense joy. She also leaves behind loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3:00pm on Saturday, September 9th at Lakewood Funeral Chapel. Services, officiated by Dr. Lynne Settlemyre, will begin at 3:00pm in the Chapel. Memorials may be made to the United Way of Brazoria County 4005 Technology Dr #1020, Angleton, TX 77515, to help residents recover from the Hurricane Harvey disaster.
