Mabel Gautreaux

Mabel Gautreaux, former long-time resident of Freeport, Texas passed away at the age of 100 years, 7 months on October 6, 2017, in New Orleans, Louisiana where she and her now deceased husband J. C. Gautreaux moved in 2000 to be with their only daughter Linda Gautreaux. Mabel Gautreaux was born in Freeport and loved the community and never stopped being a Texan. Besides being a full-time, wonderful mother to her daughter, she was given the loving nickname of Mama G by her daughter's life-long friend Sue Taylor Merritt she was a second mother to many of Linda's friends with her unconditional love. She worked with her husband in Gautreaux Cleaners and was an excellent seamstress, creating patterns for Linda's clothes and tailoring her husband's suits. She is predeceased by her parents, Mabel Crosby Hanson and James H. Hanson, her husband J. C. Gautreaux and many relatives and dear friends. She leaves behind her daughter Linda Gautreaux and her son-in-law Reid Dennis, her life-long 100-year-old friend Mickie Wheeless Calhoun, her nieces and nephews Hazel Brown, Sidney Simpson, Wesley Gautreaux, Jack Gautreaux and Paul Brown and many relatives and friends. A graveside funeral service will be held at Gulf Prairie Cemetery on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
