Gene Huisman

Gene Huisman, 88, of Clute, Texas passed away November 21, 2017 surrounded by his family and dogs. He was born April 28, 1929 in Sioux City, Iowa to Thomas Andrew and Margaret Schumaker Huisman. Gene was a charter member of St. Mark Lutheran Church of Lake Jackson. During his working life he was a cabinet maker, hospital corpsmen, and retired as a production foreman from the Dow Chemical Co. after 38 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters: Vivian Hamar, Shirley Greene, brother, Gary Thomas Huisman, and his son, Terry Patrick Huisman. Gene is survived by his wife of 68 years Louise Huisman of Clute, 2 children: Thomas Michael Huisman of Clute, Carolyn Huisman and Robert Harlan of Clute, his loving dogs: Elizabeth, Bridgett, and Sophie, 1 grandson: Scott Huisman and Tanya, 3 great grandchildren: Arkane, Bowen, and Catti-Brie, and 1 brother Dennis Dean Huisman and wife Kay of Sioux City, Iowa. The family will receive friends 5pm until 7pm Friday at Lakewood Chapel. Funeral services will be 2pm Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel, Lake Jackson, Texas with Pastor Terrance Adamson officiating. Interment will follow at Brazoria Cemetery. Pall bearers will be James Waltz, Mike Chilcote, Phil Wolber, Mick Hamar, Ron Svasek, Paul Henderson, John LaFleur, and Kenneth Groom. Honorary pallbearers will be: Thomas Huisman, Roy Waltz, Dennis Huisman, Robert Harlan, and Andy Elliott. Gene's family wishes to convey their heartfelt gratitude to A-Med Hospice for their care, especially Ann Nesbitt. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of their choice.
