Catherine Buettner, 93, of Lake Jackson, passed away on November 20, 2017. She was born on April 10, 1924, in Alexandria, Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her parents, August A. Chaudoir and Francis Sims Chaudoir; her brothers, Gerard, August, and Charles Chaudoir,; and her husband, John Philip Buettner. She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Buettner of Houston, Texas, and Ann Buettner Honea and her husband Steve of Weatherford, Texas; three grandsons, Tanner Honea and wife, Tracey, of Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, Garrett Honea and fiancée Rachel DeMay of Arlington, Texas, Cameron Honea and wife Alexis of Big Spring, Texas; three great-grandchildren; and beloved nieces and nephews. Cathy graduated from Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the early 1940s. She worked for various hospitals in New Orleans, Louisiana, including a summer spent treating patients afflicted by polio in North Carolina. She eventually moved to Houston, where she met her husband, John Buettner, whom she claimed was a great dance partner because they both liked to "jitterbug." They wed on January 29, 1955, and moved to the Brazosport area shortly after. They eventually moved to Begonia Street in Lake Jackson, where they lived for over 45 years. For a time, Cathy owned and ran a needle arts shop in Lake Jackson called "The Yarn Basket." She loved learning and teaching all textile arts. Her philosophy was that "everyone needs a hobby. Or a hundred." She was a woman of many talents, but her true passions were cooking, gardening, quilting, and sewing. She and her dear friend Miriam Jordan created a fabric art wall hanging depicting the history of Brazoria County which hung in the Smithsonian Museum of American History during the summer of 1990, and they later donated it to the Brazoria County Historical Museum in Angleton. Cathy's curiosity and passion for learning, her humor, endless stories, and her love for family and friends will be missed. On Wednesday, November 29, 2017, visitation will be held at 6 p.m., followed by a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. at Lakewood Chapel Funeral Home, 98 North Dixie Drive, Lake Jackson, Texas.
