Funeral services for Richard J. Whitehead, age 87, of Clute, Texas will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Brazos Pointe Fellowship in Lake Jackson with Greg Pickering officiating. Interment will be held at Restwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at Brazos Pointe Fellowship at 1:00 pm on January 30, 2018. Richard Joy Whitehead passed away on January 25th, 2018. He was born December 7, 1930 in Minton, Texas to Charles Dawson Whitehead and Bennie Elise Whitehead. Joy received Christ as his Savior at an early age. He spent most of his life in the Brazosport area. He worked for Brazosport Roofing and Sheet Metal for 50 years, moving through the ranks from roofer, to foreman, to supervisor, manager and finally to owner. He had an incredible work ethic and sense of fairness. Joy enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing "hand and foot". He loved to go camping with the family, coached baseball for his sons and could be seen for several years playing golf with his wife, Ray. He served in the clown unit of the Shriners. In his late years, Joy could be found most days sitting on the front porch of his home, drinking coffee, waving at passing neighbors, and visiting with those who were able to stop for a moment and chat. He is preceded in death by his wife, Burnice Ray Whitehead, daughter Karen Faulk, parents Charles Dawson and Bennie Elise Whitehead, brothers Bill, Kenneth, Aaron, and Charles Wayne and his sisters Louise Dorsey, Katie Pennington, and Mary Whitehead. Joy's survivors include daughter Debra Blackwell and husband Elgin of Lake Jackson, sons Mike Whitehead and wife Cherle of Beaumont and Ronnie Whitehead and wife Teresa of Lake Jackson, son-in-law Allen Faulk of Lake Jackson, sister Rebecca Martin and husband Travis of Spring. Grandchildren include: Jeff Faulk and wife Teresa of Houston, Teresa Hammonds and husband Clint of Guy; Amanda Wiggans and husband Shane of Lake Jackson, Christie Gutierrez and husband Joey of Lake Jackson, Melinda Terry and husband Ben of Beaumont, Jason Whitehead of Houston, Joshua Whitehead of Houston, Chris Whitehead and Amandy Murray of Brazoria, Leah Fipps and husband Bryan of Bacliff, and Cory Whitehead of Lake Jackson. Joy is also survived by 17 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jason Whitehead, Joshua Whitehead, Jeff Faulk, Chris Whitehead, Cory Whitehead, and Austin Cuellar.
