Nelda Jean Shoopman

Nelda Jean Gates Shoopman, of Brazoria, Texas, passed away at her home on Monday, August 17, 2020. Nelda was born on November 23, 1941, to Edgel and Opal Gates of Alvin, Texas. Nelda was a Beautician for over 55 years. She had a great love for her customers and thought of them as family. She had many interests throughout her life. She was a crafter and had a passion for plants and landscaping. She enjoyed restoring pictures for people and even editing photos of family members to make sure no one was ever left out of group photos. Nelda loved her family and cherished every one of her grandchildren, always finding ways to make each one of them feel special. Nelda had many friends and was known for her beautiful smile and bubbly personality. She had a gift for bringing joy to everyone around her and making people laugh. Nelda truly taught her family how to really love! She was always there no matter what you were going through with words of encouragement, support, and warm loving hugs! She definitely leaves behind a legacy of undying respect for her and a desire from her family not to let her down in how we continue to show our love and support to each other. Nelda is survived by her children, sons Steven Shelby of Jefferson City, Missouri; Mikeal (Mike) Shoopman & wife, Renee of Brazoria, Texas; daughters Karen Shelby Shields and husband, Clarence (Bubba) of Calliham, Texas; Bobbie Shoopman Shaffer & husband, Mark of Lake Jackson, Texas; grandchildren, Jason Shields and wife, Vanessa of Calliham, Texas; Joni Shields Nichols of Brazoria, Texas; Heather Shoopman of Bridge City, Texas; Chelsea Cladwell of Austin, Texas; Kaela Shaffer of Lake Jackson, Texas; Mallory Shaffer of Lake Jackson, Texas; great grandchildren, Steven, Kaitlyn, Matthew, Derek, Avery, Alliona, Rey Rey, Ava, Amari, Amiyah, and Arieal; Bill Grady Gates & wife, Patsy of Sahuarita ,Arizona; sister Joy Gates Cowman & husband, Hollis of Giddings, TX. Nelda was proceeded in death by her loving husband of 39 years Bobby Shoopman; father, Edgel Gates; & mother, Opal Gates A celebration of life is scheduled for August 29, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Lighthouse Church at 501 W Brazos Ave, West Columbia, TX 77486.
