Lee Rumsey
12/3/1981 - 7/17/2020

Leland "Lee" Charles Rumsey went home to be with the Lord on July 17, 2020 in Brazoria, Texas. Lee was a loving Daddy and a caring friend to all. He was born in Conroe, Texas to his parents, Charles Lee Rumsey and Shirley Larson Rumsey. Lee lived his first five years in Cleveland, Texas. As a young child, Lee was easy going and always nice to everyone. He followed his big sister everywhere. They spent a lot of time outside also with his brother and cousins, which began his lifelong love of the outdoors. And he had his first experience at growing vegetables with his parents and grandparents, which he would continue later as an adult. He loved going with his family in the bass boat to the lake. With his Dad, he loved wrestling, building things in the barn, and shooting his Chipmunk rifle. He loved for his Mom to read him books, take him to church, and visit his friend or cousins down the country road.

After moving to Freeport, he was welcomed into a wonderful neighborhood of many children with great parents who he enjoyed playing with and many became life-long friends. He skate boarded, played football, baseball, and basketball with the Freeport leagues. He loved fishing trips with his Grandpa, brother, friends, and cousins in his air boat for flounder in the bays, or speckled trout in the Brazos, or catfish and bass at Toledo Bend. He enjoyed fishing the rest of his life.

During intermediate and high school, he attended a Surfside church where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized in the Gulf. He loved hanging out in the church music and game room, playing basketball, and going to concerts. Lee had such a good heart and loved to make everyone laugh. He competed all along the Texas coast in the Texas Gulf Surf Association (TGSA) as a member of the church's surf team ministry. The Costa Rica surfing trip was one that he talked about the most.

After graduating from Brazosport High School, he began as a sheet metal apprentice at Theriot, Inc. He quickly advanced in knowledge of the craft to become a lead HVAC technician. He took pride in his work and trained many apprentices. Along with Outta Control Cookers, Lee served the Dow MS 150 bicycle team every year from 2003 to 2011. With his sister's family, he competed, racing his dirt bike in the Texas Off Road Championship Series (TORCS) all over Texas. He liked fast cars, going off road in his truck, and pulling out cars stuck in the sand at the beach. Lee was always helping someone. He and his brother liked driving their Dad's race boat, which they restored. Lee enjoyed going offshore fishing with his Dad. Lee loved going to his grandpa Larson's family reunion at the Kansas farm where he grew up and seeing his Great Uncle and reconnecting with his cousins.

The birth of his children made him happier than ever. Lee enjoyed spending time with them at the beach, fishing and playing, taking a weekend trip to the lake, cooking for them, playing softball, and going to Mamoo's house for dinner and many more activities. He loved reading books and telling them his own stories before bedtime. His daughter enjoyed spending time with her Daddy taking care of her baby alive doll, playing Barbies, and dancing. At the beach, with her dad and little brother, she enjoyed catching little fish with their hands, building sandcastles, getting ice cream from the truck, and chillin' in the sun. She enjoyed them playing hide and go seek inside and outside, playing in the rain, swinging and sliding, and going to water parks. His son enjoyed learning to use children's tools, riding the lawnmower together, and picking the tomatoes and cucumbers Lee had grown. He was so proud of his children and loved them full heartedly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Rumsey. He is survived by his daughter, Harli Rumsey, son, Leland Rumsey Jr., mother, Shirley Rumsey, sister, Tammie Freeze (Jimmy), sister, Julie Theriot (Ronnie), brother, Robert Rumsey, the mother of his children, Stephanie Kozak, and nephew & nieces, Chase Theriot, Taylee Rumsey, Caris Theriot and Cayna Theriot.
