James "Terry" Moore

Funeral services for James Terry Moore (or Terry Moore as he was known by friends and family), age 71 of Lake Jackson, TX will be held at 10 am on Friday November 13, 2020 at Lakewoood Funeral Chapel. Due to COVID 19 there will be no gathering after the services.
Terry was born to parents D.C and Bobbie Dee Moore in Alpine, TX on March 19, 1949. He excelled in both academics and sports. He graduated from Mertzon high school as valedictorian and was the captain of both the football and basketball teams. He graduated from University of Texas at Austin in 1971 with a BS in math. Terry came from a long line of educators (his mother was teacher and both his father and grandfather where superintendents) and in 1971 he started teaching math at a middle school in Austin, TX. He then went on to earn a master's degree in administration from Sul Ross State University and a superintendent's certification from Texas Tech University. He spent most of his career as the principal of Ogg Elementary in Clute Texas. He worked as a principal there from 1984 - 2005. He was respected and loved by his staff and students and even had the street in front of Ogg Elementary named after him when he retired. He led Ogg Elementary to winning a National Blue Ribbon award, one of his most treasured achievements as an administrator.
He married his high school sweetheart on August 14th 1971 in San Angelo, TX. They had 2 children, Bethany Moore and Travis Moore. Terry was a loving father and supported his children in all their activities and aspirations. He was generous to a fault at times and was always open to hearing someone's point of view and putting himself in their shoes. He was active in the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association. He loved to golf, play basketball and bowl and play games and remained a curious learner his whole life. He loved to travel as well.
Terry lived with Parkinson's disease for the last 30 years of his life. It took away much from him, but he remained positive and continued to live his life to the best of ability until his death.
