George Tobin Wommack, JR.
7/11/1945 - 9/9/2021
George Tobin Wommack, Jr., affectionately known as "Toby," age 76, passed away on the 9th day of September, 2021, in Lake Jackson, Texas. He was born on July 11, 1945 in Freeport, Texas, to Hester Gene Guthrie Wommack and George Tobin Wommack.
Toby graduated from Brazosport High School in 1963; then attended his beloved University of Texas earning a Batchelors of Business Administration. After only three years of college, Toby entered the University of Texas School of Law with the highest entering LSAT score in his class. He earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1969 and was licensed by the State Bar of Texas that same year.
Toby lived a life of service to others practicing law for over fifty years. He was recognized as a Lifetime Member of the Texas Bar Foundation which is limited to 1/3 of the top 1% of all lawyers practicing in the state. Not to be defined by the boundaries of Brazoria County, during his term as general counsel for the Port of Freeport and also in affiliation with Oaks, Hartline and Daly, Toby frequently traveled internationally making friends across the globe. His compassion was not limited to his family but to the broader community with countless hours of pro bono legal services provided. In recognition of service to others, Toby was one of the five founders of the 100 Club of Brazoria County, which provides scholarships to the children of officers and financial support to families of those killed in the line of duty.
At any event, Toby owned the room with his energentic personality, contagious laugh and vibrant stories. There is no doubt that he loved his wife, children and grandchildren as he ensured everyone knew of their accomplishments. Toby was an avid traveler and sought to broaden his children's horizons through world travel. He, along with his wife, took joy in the many pleasures of living life on their ranch, Sycamore Bend. When his grandchildren arrived, he enjoyed countless mule rides to visit the horse, donkey, cows, deer and any other creatures that made their way onto the land, introducing them to hunting and fishing and telling many a story around the campfire. You could always find Toby sitting on the porch watching his Longhorns with a glass of scotch and a cigar. He truly lived his life on his own terms and if you were lucky enough to know him you lived it with him.
Toby was preceded in death by his mother, Hester Gene Guthrie Wommack, and his father, George Tobin Wommack, Sr. Toby is survived his wife, Julia Faye Wommack; daughters, Julia Mann and her husband, Greg; Monica Wommack; and son, George Tobin Wommack, III and his wife, Samantha; grandchildren, Hannah Mann, Sarah Mann, Jessica Mann, Dylan Wommack, Jake Wommack and Wyatt Wommack; sibling, Gene Ellen Smith and her husband, Jerry, and his beloved nieces and nephews.
