Louis Earl Summerton Jr. 71
Surfside Beach Texas lost his brief battle with cancer on Sunday April 23, 2023, at Harbor Hospice of Beaumont Texas. Louis was born January 31, 1952, in Morgan City Louisiana. First born son of Carole Straw and Louis Earl Summerton Sr. He is survived by his beloved Aunt Charlotte Doucette of Old Town, Maine, his brothers Rodney Summerton of Salem, Oregon, and Scott Koenig and his wife Mary Koenig of Clearfield, Pennsylvania. His four children Christina Nichols and her husband Phil Nichols of Hallsville, Texas, Susie Coffman and her husband Gary Coffman of New Boston Texas, Pierre Summerton of Bangor Maine, and Eric Summerton and his wife Nikkia (Martino) Summerton of Maud, Texas. ''Pappy'' to his grandchildren Phil Nichols Jr of Buffalo New York, Zachery Nichols, and his wife Tara (Gary) Nichols of Hallsville, Texas, Jax Nichols and his wife Ashley (Adcock) Nichols of Hallsville, Texas, Gabrielle Wright of New Boston, Texas, and Phoenix Wright of New Boston, Texas as well as four great grandchildren and numerous cousins. He will be fondly remembered by friends Michael McGinnis Jr. of Freeport, Texas, and Henry Patel of Paris, Texas. In addition to his parents Louis was preceded in death by his cherished Grandmother Gladys Adam of Old Town, Maine and his Godmother ''Miss Laverne'' of Morgan City, Louisiana.
Louis enjoyed traveling which began during his time in the United States Army, continuing with his working with a traveling carnival and his career as a commercial seafarer on tub boats out of Staten Island New York. He was boastful of the nine different countries and most of the fifty states he'd experienced. Louis practiced the martial art of Wing Chung winning tournaments and passing the art down to his daughters. He remained true to his heritage a combination of Maine and Louisiana declaring himself the title of ''Whole Coon'' he defined as his mother being from Maine representing the coon head and his father a Cajun from Louisiana the coon-ass, making him the whole coon. Louis Earl Summerton Jr was truly one of a kind and will be missed but never forgotten. A memorial will be held later this month in East Texas with a good ole crawfish boil and his ashes will be laid to rest next to his mother in Ole Limon, Maine as he planned for more than 48 years.
