Richard Ray VallotI am a Veteran.
2/6/1932 - 12/12/2023

Richard R Vallot, Sr, 91, of Freeport, TX, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 12th, 2023. He was born February 6, 1932, in Freeport, TX to Osey and Beulah Vallot.

Richard was a lifetime resident of Brazoria County. He graduated from Freeport High School. In 1952, he married the love of his life, Della Banks. They had been married for 50 years. Richard and Della were lifelong residents of Freeport and members of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church. In 1952, Richard joined the U.S. Army and served as a corporal in Japan for two years during the Korean War. After returning, he worked for 30 years in the Shipping Department of Dow Chemical. After retirement from Dow, Richard worked 12 years for Brazoria County as a road sign supervisor.
Richard was a devoted husband and father, you would find him always supporting his children in their sports and activities. Richard's love of sports was passed along to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He instilled in them the importance of fun and good sportsmanship.
But family was the most important facet of his life. You could see this in the strong bond that they all shared. The family cherishes the rich legacy of love and support he instilled. Richard has left behind his greatest treasure in a loving family.
Richard loved people and never met a stranger. He brightened everyone's day. He always had a smile, a joke, a hug, and just loved to kid around. He was sweet. He was generous. He was adored by so many. He was a Freeport icon. He was one of a kind.
Richard also loved to share his fantastic carpenter skills. He built many rockers, pieces of furniture and toy boxes for family and friends. He even crafted crosses from St. Mary's large altar crucifix and pews.
One of his ''passions'' was Texas Hold'em, many of his friends and buddies know that he wasn't one to pass up a card game and a casino.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Osey and Beulah Vallot, wife Della, brother James Vallot, sister Lillie Mae, and brother Victor Vallot
Richard and Della's greatest joys and accomplishments were their children. Richard is survived by his son Richard Jr. (Roya), and their children Douglas Vallot and Cisily Spinks (Devin); daughters Lori Saunders (Dave), and children, Eric Walts (Andrea), Leigha Walts and Lauren Walts; and Linda Cooper (Brady), and children Kaili (Grant) Avirett and Ryan Mitchell (Ally).
Richard was so proud and couldn't get enough of his 11 Great-Grandchildren: Joshua Walts, Kathen Weiss, Julian Robinson, Jacksyn Spinks, Kayson Jordan, Christian Robinson, Eva Spinks, Briar Avirett, Saylor Walts, Stella Spinks, Kelyn Weiss and Mickey Walts.
Richard loved his music and dancing; he and Della are no doubt reunited and dancing away in each other's arms. We will treasure all the special memories of a life well lived.
There will be a rosary and visitation, Tuesday, December 19, from 5-8pm at Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson TX. A Funeral Mass and Services will be held, Wednesday, December 20, at 10 am at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Freeport,
followed by a graveside interment at Restwood Memorial Park in Clute, TX
Donations in Richard's name to your favorite charity will be welcomed.
