James Eric Smalley
9/16/1957 - 12/20/2023

James Eric Smalley was born September 16, 1957 in Freeport, TX to Houston and Lois Jean Smalley. He passed from this life on December 20, 2023 in Austin, TX at the age of 66.
Eric was a graduate of Brazoswood High School and studied photography at Austin Community College in Austin, TX. Before he became disabled, his life work and passion was always photography. He was a former photo journalist for the Brazosport Facts, Houston Post and Dow Chemical Company.
A special memory of our family was the day he was tackled by Oiler, Greg Bingham. His camera was destroyed but Eric came out of the pile with just some bruises. The game was televised that day so it was witnessed by many.
Eric was preceded in death by his father, Houston Frank Smalley; brother Dennis Smalley; Step-dad Lewis Taylor; Step-sister Karen Taylor Crawford and Step-brother Tommy Taylor.
He is survived by his mother, Lois Jean Taylor of Bay City, TX; sister Linda Watson (Lee) of Bay City, TX; cousin Glenn Taylor (Barbara) of Conroe, TX and many loved nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Friday December 29th, 2023 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Clute. Visitation will be at 10:00am with the service at 10:30.
