Mescal Maude Steele

Mescal Maude Steele, 88, of Brazoria, Texas, passed away on April 28, 2024, from natural causes.

Mescal was born on April 14, 1936, to Jerald Campbell and Elora Ebanks on Corn Island, Nicaragua. After graduating from St. Mark's School in Bluefields, Nicaragua, Mescal served as a public school teacher before moving on to teach at the St. James Episcopal School on Corn Island.

She went on to earn an auxiliary nursing certificate (health care aide) in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua. It was while working in the clinic on Corn Island that Mescal met the love of her life, Larry Steele. Mescal and Larry married and moved to Texas, where she served as a nursing home aide for many years.

Mescal and Larry adopted two sons, Marton Arana and Jorge McDaniels. Over the years, they also provided a loving home to many nieces and nephews.

Mescal was predeceased by her husband, Larry; sisters Gartel, Doline, Dorcas and Marjorie; and brother, Valbert.

She is survived by sister, Marglet.

Services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Freeport, Texas, on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Paul's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, Mescal's church community for over 40 years.
