Kerry Wayne Hanson
9/23/1947 - 7/23/2024

On the morning of September 23, 1947 at 10:05 am, a special baby boy was born to Quentin Hanson, Sr. and Hazel McKee Hanson in Freeport, Texas. They named him Kerry Wayne Hanson. Some 76 years later on July 23, 2024 Kerry Wayne passed away into his Savior's arms with his family close by.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, brother Quentin Hanson, Jr., sister-in-law Loretta ''Sissy'' Hanson, father and mother-in-law Cyr & Ludie Broussard.

''KW'' was raised in Freeport during a much simpler time when kids could be kids enjoying all that entailed. He was an outdoorsman from a very young age. He graduated from Brazosport High School in 1966 and really enjoyed (sometimes too much) all of his class reunions. He graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1970.

KW and Pat Broussard met on July 17, 1969 at a fish fry following one of Pat's softball games. His zest for life was noticeable immediately. From that day on they were inseparable - KW introduced Pat to all the outdoor activities they would enjoy throughout their lives together. He was asked recently if it was love at first sight and with a smile and a gleam in his eye he said ''second glance.'' They were married on August 27, 1971.

After living in Houston for six months, they knew it was time to return home to the Brazosport area. He was successful in his sales career for several companies and the operation of his own self storage facility.

His love of the outdoors included more than hunting, fishing, and shooting shotguns; it was enjoying his favorite time of the day. Dawn - when he would welcome whatever God had planned for him.

During his 16-year battle with cancer and dialysis, KW had to forego many of his outdoor activities. Until a few months ago, he was able to shoot sporting clays. This was in large part due to the encouragement and help from the shooters he enjoyed being with so much, Matt Jenkins, Dave Cochrane, and Paul Quin.

KW led his family with strong convictions about knowing right from wrong and making the right choices. He often marveled at the many blessings God bestowed on him: wife Pat Hanson, daughter Traci Chelette, son-in-law Stephen, granddaughter Riley & grandson Caden, Monique Lawless, who KW grew to love as his own, Monique's boyfriend William ''Bubba'' Kettler, grandsons Zachry Lawless (Kayla) & Nathan Lawless (Brianna), great-granddaughter Blair, nephew Raymond Hanson, brother and sister-in-law Ira and Janice Broussard, New Beginnings Community Church family, and so many friends that have been on this journey with him. And the ultimate blessing - HIS SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST.
Pallbearers are Wright McBride, George Warny, Roger Moody, Mike Mitchell, Tony George, and Erle Lindsey. Honorary pallbearer is Ken Huff.

A Celebration of Life will be held at New Beginnings Community Church on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at noon. The family will receive friends at 10:30 am until the service time. A private graveside will be held at Gulf Prairie Cemetery. KW requested that everyone dress comfortably, just like he would have wanted.

Our deepest appreciation to those involved in KW's care - Dr. Alkesh Amin, Dr. Paul Corn, Dr. Charlie Cheng, Dr. Fabio Aglieco and their staff.
