Jacob Matthew Espey

Jake Espey suddenly reported to heaven on the afternoon of September 9, 2024, after suffering some type of heart incident.

Jake was born in Houston, Texas on July 7, 1977, to Stephen and Rhonda Espey, becoming the baby of the family as he was added to his older brother, Ben Espey. Jake began his life in the Kingwood area of Houston and then relocated to Lake Jackson, Texas, in elementary school where he attended Elisabeth Ney Elementary School and Lake Jackson Intermediate School where he enjoyed playing football. His family moved out to their dream home at Hide-Away on the Gulf, causing him to start high school at Brazosport High School. It was during the beginning of his Senior year that he met Stephanie Wooster in Honors Senior English Class. They ended up working on a project together for a class presentation about ''How to Water Ski''. They were participating in painting signs for the varsity football games that were used for the football team to run through. After getting to know each other and becoming friends, Stephanie asked Jake if he would like to go with her to Homecoming. He said yes and that was the beginning of their relationship. They enjoyed participating in National Honor Society, going to the prom and many other activities of their senior year. They both began attending Brazosport College in the Fall of 1995. They got married on April 27, 1996. Jake worked at Sears and Stephanie worked for various child care centers. On September 18, 1996, Jake and Stephanie became parents when they welcomed Justin Stephen Espey as their first child. Jake and Stephanie continued attending classes at Brazosport College while working. They were active members of the Freeport First Methodist Church where they enjoyed helping out with vacation Bible School and other activities. Jake got an internship with Dow Chemical which gave him experience to work in the chemical industry. In 1999 Jake was hired as an operator at Sterling Chemical in Texas City where he worked for the next 10 years. On March 7, 2002 they welcomed Jordan Matthew Espey as their second son. Jake worked for several companies over the years gaining a lot of experience along the way to support his family. He was currently working for The Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, Texas. Jake was honored to have sponsored by his father-in-law, Dennis Wooster, to attend Cradle of Texas Emmaus Walk #19 in March 2005. Jake enjoyed working on the outside team on various walks. Jake was also the Cub Master for Pack 487 in Alvin while Justin and Jordan were participating enjoying camping and the Pinewood Derbies. Jake and Stephanie were active at the Alvin First Methodist Church participating in Fusion and youth group as well as teaching Sunday School and VBS. Jake was very supportive of both of the boys while they participated in Jr. High Football and Sr. High School Football. He was also an active participant while Jordan was in the Yellow Jacket Band where he played trombone. Jake was proud of Jordan as he participated on the Alvin High School Bowling Team. He went with Jordan and his team to Los Vegas when they qualified for Junior National Bowling Tournament. Jake's family was the most important thing in his life. Clyde and Maisie brought a lot of joy into his life as he got to be with them. He was looking forward to getting to meet Myles and enjoy loving him. Jake truly loved Stephanie as Christ loved the church.

Jake is preceded in death by his Mom, Rhonda Reixach; his grandparents, Vernon Authur and Wilma Ash, and Julius and Ernestine Elizabeth Espey; as well as father-in-law, Dennis Wooster.

He is survived by his wife of over 28 years, Stephanie Espey; sons, Justin and Lyndi Espey, and Jordan and Destiny Espey. He is also survived by grandchildren, Clyde and Maisie Espey with Myles Espey on the way. He also survived by his dad, Stephen and Molly Espey; mother-in-law, Ginger Wooster; brother, Ben and Angela Espey; brother-in-laws, Andy and Kyrsten Wooster, and Pete and Kristi Wooster; as well as Forest Jane and Randy King; nephew, Jacob Espey; nieces, Rhonda Espey, Katie and Brentin Marx, Aubrey and Jordan Deville, Addison and Isabelle Wooster.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Freeport First Methodist Church, 1600 W. Broad with visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m. until the start of the service, Burial will be at Gulf Prairie Cemetery in Jones Creek, Texas. Since Jake was causal type guy we are requesting everyone wear nice jeans and a nice shirt or anything causal.
