Helen Margaret Nix Johnson June 30, 1935 until November 30, 2024
Helen was born to Ira Delin and Esther Lamon Nix on June 30, 1935, in New Boston, Texas.
She grew up in El Dorado, Arkansas, and was valedictorian of El Dorado High School in 1953. She was awarded a voice scholarship to Louisiana Polytechnic in Ruston, Louisiana, and studied there for a year. One notable honor from that time, she was selected to sing the ''Gesu Bambino'' solo at the Christmas concert. This honor was normally only given to Senior vocal students.
She left LaTech to marry her childhood sweetheart, George Wallace Johnson, on June 25,1954. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. Their marriage saw the birth of 3 daughters: Georgia Margaret Gaspard (Orren); Laura Dee Schiller (Glenn) and Rebecca Ann Johnson who was killed in a car accident on Feb. 17, 1979. She was 14.
Helen and Wally had many adventures together. One of the first involved working together at The Brazosport Facts. She in the ''front office'' with Wally or ''Red'' as he was called on the Production side. She later joined Dow Chemical USA and worked there for 26 years earning many accolades for work in navigating and negotiating Dow-Texas Operations environmental compliance. She earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Clear Lake in 1981 and was graduated summa cum laude. This was accomplished despite dealing with breast cancer.
After retirement, they served together at the Texas Baptist Encampment helping in many capacities. One particular joy was the restoration of the Falk House which is a Victorian showpiece that is now the home of the Camp administrator. The two also worked on many Volunteer Christian Builders joining work teams all across the United States to help congregations build facilities. As they did this work, Helen became interested in Folk Music and learned to play Mountain Dulcimer and Bowed Psaltery. She has published several compilations of music centered around hymns, folk and Celtic music. She with her friends: Harold Wood, Penny Noack, Cindy Speer, daughters Laura and Margaret formed ''Yellow Rose'' and produced a CD that has been played in many local venues.
Helen can be characterized by a quiet, steadfast spirit that met many setbacks and hardships. But, through it all, she maintained her faith in God.
She is preceded in death by her parents; beloved big brothers: Ira D. ''Bug'' and Harold; and beloved daughter, Rebecca.

To conclude. Our thoughts are to thank the incredible friends who became family throughout this time: Dr. Alkesh Amin and his staff; the staff of Carriage Inn who always found a way to make it work for us; to the CareBuilders who watched and cared for us all hours of the day and night; and the angels at IPH Hospice. Where would be without all of you? And to our friends and family: There are no words to thank you for your care, concern and prayers.
And to our Heavenly Father. Thank you.
