Glen Warren Putney

Glen Warren Putney, age 88, passed away on June 2, 2011, at West Houston Medical Center from kidney failure and pneumonia. He was born in Purcell, OK, on September 28, 1922, and grew up in Oklahoma City.
Glen served in the Navy as a flight director on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Randolph and was discharged in 1945.
He soon met and married Wanda in Oklahoma City. In 1951, he obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering from OSU and was employed by Dow Chemical until his retirement in 1982.
Glen and Wanda enjoyed many years traveling with their RV friends, seeing most of the western U.S. and Canada.
They settled in an area near Durango, CO, where for 20 summers he enjoyed salmon fishing, jeeping, square and round dancing, game playing (Joker) and meeting lots of fellow RV'ers.
Glen had many hobbies such as flying his Cessna 140, woodcarving, making stained glass, teaching computer classes for LLP students at Brazosport College and ground school basics for student pilots.
He was exceptionally proud to have been honored as a World War II veteran aboard the Dow Honor Flight to Washington, DC on September 27, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Noma Putney. Glen was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Wanda Horschler Putney; daughters, Karen Putney, of Houston, Texas, Susan Standard (James), of Brazoria, Texas; granddaughter, Lauren Atherton (Gary), of Katy, Texas; grandson, Cameron Standard, of Brazoria, Texas; and great-grandson, Dillon James Atherton, of Katy, Texas.
His wishes were for a simple graveside burial with family and a few close friends and he was laid to rest on June 6, 2011 with Ross Poteet conducting the service.
