Billie Burnett

Billie Barnett, 85, of Freeport, Texas went to spend eternity with her heavenly father on September 22, 2012. Billie was born Feb. 6, 1927 in Mississippi to Burl Clarence and Ina Lou Bailey Oswalt. She met the love of her life, her husband, Troy Barnett in Mississippi and they moved to Texas in 1952 where they made their home and raised their family eventually settling in Freeport, Texas. God and family were the most important things in her life. Billie was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Lake Jackson. She and her husband were self - employed through the years and worked together as a team. They worked very hard and established a following wherever they went. Through the years people came to see her beautiful smile on a daily basis. She took over the business when her husband retired and continued working until the age of 78. During her years of service at Shell Oil Company she achieved manager of the year.


Billie loved Gospel music and spent many hours listening every Saturday night. She loved to share her wonderful joy of cooking and spent many hours reading her cookbooks.


She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of fifty years, Troy Barnett, her brother James Oswalt and her sister, Anita Stunz.


Billie is survived by 2 children: Billy Ray Barnett and wife, Mary of Pryor, Oklahoma,


Pamela Springer of Lake Jackson,


6 grandchildren: Sam Springer and wife, Natalee, Kyle Springer and wife Ashley, Kevin Barnett and wife, Kelly,


Branden Barnett and wife, Jennifer, Robin Naylor and husband, Ryan, and Laurie Selman,


14 great grandchildren,


2 sisters, Joann Rachunek and husband Richard of Angleton,


Linda Rupe and husband Mike of Beeville, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.


The family will receive friends 6pm until 8pm Monday at Lakewood Chapel. Funeral services will be 10:30am Tuesday, September 25, 2012 with Rev. Gary Thornton officiating. Pall bearers will be: Sam Springer, Kyle Springer, Branden Barnett, Kevin Barnett, Rick Rachunek, and Michael Rachunek.


The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Foundation, information at www.alz.org. The family also wishes to thank AMED Hospice Care Team, Cypress Woods, and Creekside Village for their care.


Billie loved her family and her grandchildren will be left with many fond memories of their "Nanny".


Billie will be greatly missed as she was the heart of her family and friends.
