Nicholas A. Gimber

Nicholas A. Gimber was born in Worthington, Indiana, on April 22, 1921, and went to be with the Lord on December 25, 2012, in Angleton, Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lake Jackson, and the family is very thankful for his Sunday School friends and Prayer Warriors that have been so supportive of him over the last few years of his life, and all the folks at Country Village Care in Angleton and A*MED Hospice nurses that provided care and love for him in these last days and weeks.
His parents, Lena May Stalcup and Henry Charles Gimber, wife Patricia of 58 years, brother Lloyd and sister Christine Stalcup, preceded Nicholas in death.
He is survived by two sons, Gerry and wife, Crystal and Ken and wife, Patti, of Lake Jackson; granddaughter, Leslie Bannister and husband, Will, of Ft. Worth, Lindsey Gimber, of Clear Lake; and grandson, Daniel Gimber and wife, Meagan, of Lake Jackson; great-grandsons, Nicholas Bleu, Liam, Eli and Zeb Bannister, of Ft. Worth, Clark Gimber, of Lake Jackson; and great-granddaughter, Ellie Gimber, of Lake Jackson.
Nicholas graduated from Worthington High School in 1939. His father was a truck gardener and Nicholas learned something about the work ethic early in his life. During the WWII years he served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946 on both coasts as well as the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant(jg).
After attending both Indiana and Purdue Universities, he graduated from Purdue with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering in 1949. He earned membership in three National Honorary Societies, Tau Beta Pi, Omega Chi Epsilon, and Phi Lamda Upsilon.
Nicholas worked for Union Carbide in Texas City for 29 years. After retiring, he worked several more years for Petromas Engineering and the Texas Air Control Board in Houston. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Gulf Coast Waste Disposal Authority for a number of years. He was a member of the professional societies AIChE, TSPE, and NSPE.
While living in LaMarque, he was very active in Little League Baseball and later with volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, Hospice of Galveston County, and HOSTS. In Lake Jackson he volunteered for HOSTS and RSVP(Big Brothers and Sisters).
He will be buried in the family plot in the Galveston County Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2012, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson, with visitation prior to the service from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Lakewood.
