Hubert Leroy Davenport

Hubert Leroy Davenport, 99, of Freeport, passed away on January 12, 2013 . He was born in Richland Springs, Texas on January 1, 1914.
Hubert graduated from Daniel Baker College in Brownwood, Texas in 1937. He volunteered in 1942, and served as a lieutenant junior grade in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific at Pearl Harbor, Saipan and Tinian.
Hubert served as a trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Freeport and was a life member of VFW Post 4341 and Velasco Masonic Lodge 757.
He married Edith Tobey on October 8, 1946; together they owned and operated the Freeport Pharmacy until 1957. In 1959, they purchased Lee's Credit Jewelers which he owned and operated until 2010.
Hubert was inducted into the Daniel Baker College "Hall of Honor" in 2007 as one of their all-time great athletes.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Edith, his parents and five brothers and one sister.
Survivors include sons: Tobey Davenport, Wayne Davenport and wife, Monica; daughter Lynn Fuller and husband Michael, all of Freeport, Texas; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren and also by very special friends, Veola Williams and Ben Snyder.
The family will receive friends from noon until service time at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church of Freeport with Rev. Tom Sharon officiating. Interment will follow at Angleton Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: John Hubert Davenport, William Michael Fuller, Wayne Alexander Davenport, Eric Germain Davenport, Travis James Fuller and grandson-in-law Christopher Ryan David.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Percival Beacroft, Elliott Cundieff, O.C. Farmer, Paul Romine, Ben Snyder and Carol Horton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Freeport or the charity of your choice.
