Emil Oscar Galetka

Emil Oscar Galetka, a long time resident of Lake Jackson, Texas, quietly passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at OakVillage Healthcare Facility. He was 91 years old.

Emil was born in Hallettsville, Texas on December 28, 1921 to John and Theresa Galetka. He attended school through 9th grade and labored as a farm hand until his induction into the U. S. Army on October 9, 1942. He bravely and honorably served his country during World War II - fighting in the Pacific Theater.


After the war Emil went to barber school, whereupon completion, he moved to Lake Jackson. After barbering for 19 years, he went into business for himself. He opened Emil and Ken's Barber Shop on October 20, 1967.


There he happily served his community cutting hair for over 35 years, retiring at age 85. He was a long-standing member of St. Michaels Catholic Church, SPJST and the American Legion. He was a true gentleman and his warm, friendly smile will be greatly missed.


Proceeding him in death are his parents; his brothers, Victor Galetka, John Galetka, Julius Galetka, Edwin Galetka; sisters, Selma Grones and Evelyn Sassin.


Mr. Galetka is survived by his brother, Hilmer Galetka and wife, Gay, of Hallettsville, Texas; daughter, Catherine Gorum (Wilmington, NC); son, Gregory Galetka and wife, Sonya (Angleton, TX); daughter, Emilie McCuistion and husband, Scott (Plano, TX); grandchildren, Grant Gorum (Wilmington, NC), Courtney (Nick) Crouch (Bossier City, LA), Jason Galetka (Lake Jackson, TX), JoLee Galetka (Angleton, TX), Margret Choate-Luna (Lake Jackson, TX), Travis Eli Choate (Fayetteville, NC), Avery McCuistion (Plano, TX) and Myer McCuistion (Plano, TX); great-grandchildren, Alyssa Crouch, Caitlyn Galetka, Casey Galetka, Ayden Luna, Ava Luna, Kole Cammarn, and Emma Choate; and last but not least, long time friend and companion, Agnes Warneke, of Needville, Texas.


Pallbearers will be Allen Ray Grones, Melvin Grones, Leon Grones, Anthony Grones, Jason Galetka, and Myer McCuistion.


Honorary pallbearers will be Grant Gorum, and Travis Eli Choate


Visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Clute, Tx on Sunday, May 12 from 7 until 9 p.m.


The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 13, 2013 at the Vsetin Czech Moravian Brethren Church in Vsetin, Texas. The Rev. Mark Labaj will be officiating.
