Lois Carolyn Morgan
10/7/1943 - 6/3/2013
Lois Oakes Morgan, 69, of Lake Jackson, Texas passed away in her sleep on Monday, June 3, 2013. Lois, being a daughter of a career military father, was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on October 7, 1943. She always laughed and joked about her mother going there for the weekend to visit when her father was stationed nearby and staying to have a daughter.
She was a world traveler in her growing up years when she spent her early years in post-war Germany. She went to school in many locations, anywhere there was a military base including Germany, Kansas, Pennsylvania and Texas. She attended High School in San Antonio and then graduated as Valedictorian from the Bradwell Institute in Hinesville, Georgia. Lois attended Rice University and graduated in 1965.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Lt. Col. James L. Oakes and Doris Morgan Oakes. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Roy E. Morgan and her son, James (Jay) Morgan of Houston; her brother, James L. Oakes Jr. and his wife, Peggy Oakes of Fairfax, VA; her brother-in-law, William H. Morgan and his wife, Karen Morgan of Soddy-Daisy, TN; her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and one aunt. She is also survived by her vast extended family including her beloved GORB and wine group.
Lois moved to Lake Jackson upon marrying Roy in 1967. She often said that this was where she began growing roots in the community after the frequent moves as her father moved from station to station. Lois' loves in life were her many kitty cats, her love of books and her love of meeting people and making new friends. Lois was a loving, compassionate and caring individual; she never met a stranger because they weren't strangers after a short time.
Lois was known for her wit and creative ideas. She was known for her poetry because she would write poems for her friends as they celebrated birthdays and other special occasions. She offered her time to several organizations such as the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the Friends of the Brazoria Refuges (Migration Celebration) and most recently as an IRS Tax Aide with AARP.
She is now at peace with our Lord, her parents and her many kitty cats. Many of her friends often said that when they die, they would like to be reincarnated as one of Lois' kitties.
There will be a memorial service on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 2:00PM at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 300 Willow Drive in Lake Jackson followed by a reception in their Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the Memorial Fund in her memory at Chapelwood, or to the Gulf Coast Wildlife Rescue Organization (GCWR, 316 C.R. 605, Angleton, TX 77515) or to Sea Center Texas (300 Medical Drive, Lake Jackson, TX 77566).
The family would like to thank the nursing home staff and caregivers at Legend Oaks Nursing Home of Jersey Village and at Lakewood Nursing Center of Clute. Roy and Jay would also like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation for the support of their vast extended family in the months since Lois' stroke in January.
