Betty Christine Blackwell

Betty Christine Blackwell, age 90, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2013, in Lake Jackson, Texas, after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. She was born January 11, 1923 in Quitman, Mississippi, to Gabe Moffett and Dora Hinson Moffett.
Christine grew up in Clarke County, Mississippi and graduated from Quitman High School in 1942. She was married to Leo Blackwell for 32 years and while he served in World War II, Christine served her country working at the Oakridge Nuclear Facility in Tennessee. During her young adult years, she worked to support her husband while he attended college, then she concentrated on home and family. Later Christine worked for Riley Hospital and Peavey Electronics, both in Meridian, Mississippi. After retiring from Peavey, Christine moved to Lake Jackson, Texas to be near her children and grandchildren.
She attended Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene in Lake Jackson and was active in the Daylily Society of Lake Jackson. Christine's lifelong passion was gardening and she worked in her flower gardens until she became ill four months ago. Christine enjoyed many creative hobbies and was considered an awesome cook by friends and family. She also loved to read and enjoyed playing dominoes.
Christine is survived by her daughter, Delores Smith and son-in-law Stanley, of Lake Jackson, Texas, daughter Cathi Wingo and son-in-law Jerry of Cypress, Texas and by her son Elgin Blackwell and daughter-in-law Debra of Lake Jackson, Texas. She is also survived by her two sisters, Inell Taylor and Barbara Williams, both of Meridian, Mississippi. Christine is survived by five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Christine is preceded in death by her husband, Leo Blackwell, brothers Woodrow Moffett, GW Moffett, and Elgin Moffett and by a sister, Celeste Rasberry.
A memorial service will be conducted for family members at Jones Chapel Church of God in Meridian, Mississippi.
