John Edmund Thomson

John "Jack" Edmund Thomson, Jr. passed peacefully into the loving arms of his savior on Saturday, November 9, 2013, surrounded by his family.
Jack was born in Galveston, Texas to John E. and Isabel Grave Thomson on June 9, 1924. He graduated from Ball High School, attended the University of Washington at Seattle for one year, and then returned to attend Texas A & M before being called to serve his country in World War II.
Jack served in a machine gun squad in the 116th Infantry Regiment of the 29th Infantry Division from July 1944 to the end of the war in Europe and then in the Bremen Enclave until Christmas Day 1945 when the Regiment sailed out of Bremerhaven to return to the United States. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the French Legion of Honor medal.
After the war, he returned to Texas A & M. He and Margaret Jane Lyster were married June 5, 1948, and lived in the married students' quarters until he graduated with a BS in Physics in 1949. After working in Galveston for a year, he returned to A & M and received a Masters Degree in Physics in 1951.
The couple moved to Lake Jackson, Texas in 1953, where Jack went to work in the research department for the Dow Chemical Company. He retired from Dow after 29 years of service.
Jack and Jane were charter members of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Lake Jackson and were active in the church. He was an avid fisherman, good storyteller, loved to write, and was a dedicated Freemason.
Survivors include his two children; Janie Baldeschwiler and husband Richard; son Will Thomson and wife Donna; four grandchildren Tracy Baldeschwiler, John Baldeschwiler, Jaime Thomson and Jackie Meiste and husband Scot. He is also survived by half-sisters Mary Beth and Linda, and half-brother Lynn.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Hospice Care Team and Debbie Smith, Director of Nursing at Creekside Nursing Home, for the loving care extended to Jack during his final days. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Hospice Care Team, Veterans of Foreign War (VFW), or a charity of choice.
Visitation will be from 4:00 6:00 PM on Tuesday, November 12, at Lakewood Chapel. Funeral services will be at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church on Wednesday, November 13, at 10:00 AM with the Reverend Andy Parker officiating. Pallbearers will be members of the Lake Jackson Masonic Lodge. Honorary pallbearers are Ken Box and Dick Huntington.
