Betty Jo Loyd
6/21/1930 - 12/19/2013

"She watches over the affairs of her household

and does not eat the bread of idleness.

Her children arise and call her blessed;

her husband also, and he praises her:

"Many women do noble things,

but you surpass them all."

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;

but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."

Proverbs 31:27-30

Born on June 21, 1930, in Nineveh, Texas, Betty Jo Tilley Loyd was called home to be with The Lord on Thursday, December 19, 2013 in the comfort of her home.

Betty was born to Normie Franklin Tilley and Robbie Lea Price Tilley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years Charles Otto Loyd, her beloved sister, Charlene Wallace, her brother John Reece Tilley, her sister Sylvia Ann Gibson, and her cherished mother-in-law, Ida Loyd.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Debbie Loyd Brenk and husband Freddie; granddaughters, Brandye Roland and husband Chris, and Holly Brockman and her cherished great-grandbabies, Kaylee and Karsyn Roland and Jacey Brockman. She is also survived by her siblings, Sonny Tilley and wife Carolyn, and Janice Boyd and husband Luther. Special sister-in-law and best friend, Betty Wright and special niece, Shirley Harris and husband Jim. Also, special "adopted" daughter, Carol Sue Herbert, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Betty was introduced to her soul-mate, Charles by his sister, Betty Merle. They married when she was just sixteen years old. Together with their daughter, they moved to Freeport in 1952. It was here they enjoyed the companionship of dear friends, Bonnie and Leroy Jurries and Sally and Waymon Womack. Some of their favorite past times were camping, traveling, bowling, and waterskiing. Betty was a homemaker and she babysat the children of many of their friends. She left a mark on many of these children and remained close with them throughout her life. In 1970, she and Charles opened their business, Loyd's Florist of Brazosport. It was through this business that they met many wonderful friends. Betty never learned how to design flowers, but she was an expert bow-maker and plant dresser. She was also a world class supervisor. Once her two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren came along, she moved into her most treasured role, full-time playmate.

Among all of her many accomplishments, taking care of her family was the one she was most proud of and the most successful. Betty was happiest whenever she was surrounded by her family. She could always be found supporting her grand babies at sporting events or music and dance recitals. She was the truest definition of a matriarch. She instilled strong Christian values and created the ties that bind our family together.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 20 at Lakewood Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Moore officiating.

Burial will follow at Gulf Prairie Cemetery in Jones Creek.

Pallbearers will be Marty Gibson, Bill Herbert, Justin Gibson, Luther Boyd, Rodney Wright, and Sonny Tilley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Freddie Brenk, Chris Roland, Jim Harris, Tyler and Hunter Gibson, Jeremy Moore, Mike Boyd, Charles Alton Lee, and Charles Kemp.

The family would like to extend our warmest thanks to A-Med Hospice for the special care they gave our "Nana" and our family.
