Kenneth Roy Evans

Ken Evans, a long time Lake Jackson resident, passed away February 10, 2014, in Sugar Land, TX from complications of Alzheimer's. Ken was born in rural Johnson County, Missouri, Aug 21, 1926, to Bacil and Haidee Evans, to a line of early settlers of Northwest Missouri. He graduated from Leeton High School and then served in the U.S. Navy, repairing aircraft aboard a carrier. He graduated from Central Missouri State College with a degree in Chemistry. Ken worked for Sheffield Steel in Kansas City and in 1955 began working for Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, TX. He retired from Dow in 1985 after working in various technical and supervisory positions, much of his work involving chlorine production. Ken was a member of the First United Methodist Church and later the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Jackson, TX and a member of the Emmaus community. He was a member and officer of the Greenwood Gun Club, a leader in Boy Scouts, a bridge player, and a great outdoorsman. Ken was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Cecil Evans, his first wife J.B. (Deania) Evans, and his second wife, Dwan Dauer. He is survived by his brother Levi of Kansas City, MO., a son Vince and his wife Lilie of Sugar Land, a son Ron and his wife Judy of Great Falls, MT, a stepson Daryl Dauer and his wife Beth of Lake Jackson, a stepdaughter Jana Dauer, 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. The family is thankful for the loving assistance provided by his care givers at Silverado Senior Living during his last months of an active and productive life. Visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Chapel, Lake Jackson, TX on Monday, February 17, 10:00 am noon. In lieu of flowers, those who wish, please forward remembrances in Ken's name to the building fund of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Jackson or to Heifer International.
