Charles Wilburn Williams

Charles Wiiburn Williams, 89, of Freeport passed away on Tuesday, June 17,
2014. He was born on April 29, 1925 in San Antonio, Texas to Charlie and Ella
Williams. The visitation wi66 be from 1:30 p.m. until service time 2:30 p.m. Friday June 20, 2014 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson, Texas.
Interment will be at Gulf Prairie Cemetery.

He grew up in Kingsbury, Texas and graduated from Dowdy H.S. (Darst
Field) in 1942. Charles enlisted in the Navy and served from September 1942 -
March 1946.

He enrolled at Southwest Texas State Teacher's College in San Marcos
graduating in August, 1950. He also attended Sul Ross State Teachers College for
three summers and received his MBA degree in 1955. A college courtship
resulted in marriage to Nancy Louise Allen in 1950.

Charles taught school at La Caste H.S. for 1 Yi years before moving to
the Brazosport area in 1952. He worked at Dow Chemical for about a year and a
half, but his heart was really with teaching. In September 1953 he became a
charter member of the Stephen F Austin Elementary as a six grade teacher. On
March 17, 1957, he became the principal of T.W. Ogg Elementary when it opened
its doors. He was principal of Ogg until the 1966-67 school year when he became
principal of Velasco Elementary. In June 1985, he retired from Brazosport ISO
after 32 years.

Retirement years were kept busy with gardening, fishing, and traveling.
Charles was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Freeport.
Family request that memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church of
Freeport, 1402 W. Broad, Freeport, Texas 77541.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, his parents, and his only
brother Joe.

He is survived by daughter, Becky Nichols and husband, Nick of Bridge City,
Texas; sons, Allen Williams and wife Pat of Richwood, Texas and Mark Williams
and wife Vicki, of Lake Jackson, Texas; grandchildren, Bill Nichols, Sam Nichols,
Laycie Williams, and Mark Williams.

The pallbearers will be his grandsons.
