Barbara Gene Arrington

Barbara Gene Arrington went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on July 4, 2015, at 3:11 am at Carriage Inn in Lake Jackson, TX where she was surrounded by her family. She was born May 19, 1937 in Abilene, TX to Edwin Rhome & Lois Mathis Bumpass. She lived in Abilene & Freeport and graduated from Brazosport High School in 1955. She married the love of her life, William Charles "Bill" Arrington on October 28, 1965 and cherished their 43 years together. They settled in Jones Creek, TX where they raised their two children. She is survived by her daughter, Sabrina Gene Brimage and husband Troy of Freeport, TX, and her son, Dr. William Charles Arrington and wife Sherri of Heath, TX, her grandchildren, Brendan Shane (13) and Breanna Nicole Brimage (13) , and Aubryn Camille (9), Adalyn Corynn (6), and Ashtyn Claire (2) Arrington. Barbara was an only child, but is also survived by her "sister" Julia Arrington Crainer, close cousin Ronnie Miller and wife Janice, and special friend/caretaker, Patty Aden. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill, her parents, and close cousin Eddie Bumpass.

Barbara had a wonderful marriage to Bill and was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom. She loved every minute of raising her two children. She always said that it was her joy and pleasure to devote this time to her daughter and son. She enjoyed attending all of their activities, watching sports of all kinds (especially Aggies), entertaining friends at their home, and hosting numerous parties at the family river house. Her motto was "the more the merrier," and there were times when you couldn't count the number of people at the river house. She was passionate about her family and was a mama bear whose voice resonated at the ballpark, swim meet, or school. Cooking and working in her flowerbeds were a few of her amazing talents. If you've ever eaten Barbara Gene's lemon and chocolate pies, chocolate sheet cake with half nuts/have plain (because Sabrina liked nuts and William didn't), cheesy grits, or shrimp gumbo you won't soon forget them. She loved the Lord, was a member of Jones Creek Baptist Church, and started each morning on her porch with a prayer of thanksgiving for a new day. Once her children were grown, she made time for herself by learning to paint china, oil, and watercolor from her "sister" Julia Crainer. She became an incredibly talented artist and found such peace in her painting and most recently her pottery. Her family is thankful to have so many of her beautiful pieces to help remember her. When her husband's health and livelihood was at risk, her determination and devotion to family was evident as she became a successful real estate agent with Clyde Cone Realty. Through this, she found a large home and a perfect opportunity to open Peach Pointe Daycare, which she owned and operated for 12 years. She found so much joy in "raising" another generation of children and had a true impact on countless young lives. After her husband's passing and retiring from the daycare, she moved back to the river house where she had so many fun memories spent with friends and family. Barbara went on several exciting trips and saw many beautiful parts of the world after her retirement. Most recently, she moved to Carriage Inn in Lake Jackson, TX and absolutely loved it there. Her grandchildren will have sweet memories of painting with their Nana. She treasured her precious grandchildren and they were her pride and joy. Barbara would often sit and watch her grandchildren at play and would get tears in her eyes saying "this makes life worth living...one day you'll understand...God is good all the time." To those who knew her well, she was simply known as Barbara Gene. Barbara Gene leaves a legacy of love for the Lord, devotion to her family, determination to get things done, and to have an unforgettable time in all of these.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Miller, Everett Mac Crainer, Matt Miller, and Edwin Bumpass. Pallbearers will be Charles Emola, Tom Pearson, Larry Wayne Goodbread, Carl Williams, Adam Boriack, and Jimmy Crainer.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 7 at Lakewood Funeral Home at 98 North Dixie Drive in Lake Jackson, TX from 6:00-8:00pm . Services will be held Wednesday, July 8, at 2:00 pm at Jones Creek Baptist Church at 7334 Highway 36 in Freeport, TX. Interment will immediately follow at Gulf Prairie Cemetery in Jones Creek. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brazosport Art League at 400 College Drive in Clute, TX.
