George Morrison Long

George Morrison Long of Lake Jackson, Texas passed away on December 20, 2015. Funeral services will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home at 96 North Dixie Dr in Lake Jackson on December 28 at 2 pm with visitation from 11 to 2. Then he will be transported to Ozark, AL for service on Thursday, December 31 by Fuqua Bankston 508 Faust Ave., Ozark and burial at Woodlawn Memory Garden at 531 N Hwy 231. George was born in Troy, Alabama on November 24, 1938, the oldest son of George W. Long and Mary M. Long of Skipperville, Alabama, where he grew up. He attended the local school, which is now named for his father, until the 8th grade. Then he went to Carroll High School in Ozark, Alabama and played basketball and baseball, lettering in both. After high school he attended Auburn University where he received both bachelors and masters degrees in chemical engineering. During this time a mutual friend suggested he meet Elena Mixon, also from Ozark, who was attending Judson College. A year after they graduated, they were married on July 5, 1962. Once he obtained his masters in chemical engineering, George found a job with Dow Chemical in Freeport, Texas and he and Elena moved to Lake Jackson, Texas in 1963. George worked for Dow for 38 and a half years, including a three year period in Salvador, Brazil. He and his wife have been married for over 53 years. George is survived by his wife, Elena, their two daughters Laurie Long of San Antonio, Texas, and Amy Long and her husband, Paddy Donovan, of Lake Jackson, Texas, Amy and Paddy's sons George and Jude Donovan. He is also survived by his brother Thomas Jeffery Long, Sr. and his wife Suzanne Harrington Long and their son Thomas Jeffery Long, Jr. of Mobile, Alabama.
