Mark Comneck, 65, passed away on September 2, 2024, in Brazoria County, Texas. Born on October 25, 1958, in Brooklyn, New York to Charles and Helen Comneck.

A proud graduate of Newfield High School, in Selden, New York, Class of 1976. Mark furthered his education at Bethany College in West Virginia. Moving to Texas in 1981, Mark began his career in education for the next 40 years. He began his career as a physical education teacher/coach at Brazosport ISD. While teaching/coaching he pursued his graduate studies and started his administrative career in Angleton ISD climbing the ladder as an Assistant Principal, Principal, Director of Secondary Education and then finishing his career as Assistant Superintendent of Schools.

Mark dedicated his life to his faith and family. He is survived by Deborah, his wife of 41 years, with whom he shared nearly five decades of friendship. His sons, Matthew (Madeline) and David (Carlie), and his adored grandchildren Connor, Paige, and Cruz.

Additionally, he leaves behind his parent-in-laws, John and Betty Newton; brothers, Pete (Valerie) and Richie (Nadia); sisters, Helen (Pat), Sue Anne (Ray), Tina (Steve); and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends, and colleagues. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Arthur Comneck and Helen Mary Rivezzo.

Mark was a highly regarded educator so many strived to be, and he did not even have to try. His positivity, passion, and enthusiasm for it all just came naturally. Mark was much more than an administrator; he was a mentor and friend. God needed this wonderful man up in Heaven just as we needed him here on earth…now we know why. He probably has some folks in Heaven needing further instruction and tutorials, and he knew Mark Comneck would be just the man to lead the school. He was just about perfection right here on earth.

Mark was a beloved figure in his personal life and in his community. Marks' life was marked by his love for great food, good drinks, and nice music, which includes PIZZA, ice cream, NY bagels, ''Markaritas'' and Jimmy Buffet. Having been a star athlete in high school and continuing to play college football, Mark continued his passion for sports by coaching his boys and their friends in baseball, basketball, and soccer. The New York Yankees and the New York Giants were his favorite teams. All the way up until his diagnosis, Mark loved all outdoor activities and remained very active running, bowling and playing pickleball.

As per Mark's wishes, Lakewood Funeral Chapel cremated him. (https://www.lakewoodfuneralchapel.com) A funeral mass will be held at Saint Michael's the Archangel Catholic Church (100 Oak Drive S, Lake Jackson, Texas) on Saturday, September 28th, 2024, at 11:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to UTHealth Houston (Glioblastomas) PO Box 20268, Houston, Texas 77025-9998, or giving.uth.edu/memorial OR to the Angleton Independent School District Education Foundation, 1900 North Downing, Angleton, Texas 77515 or https://wwwigfn.us/vf/COMNECK

Mark's legacy in his professional career and his love for his family will always go on. His joy of sports, traveling and community involvement leaves an indelible mark on all who knew him. His memory will be cherished and celebrated by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his distinguished educational career and his rich personal life.

We'll take it from here, Mark. Rest easy, and we will see you one day down the way munching on that "Cheeseburger in Paradise".

My big brother, Dave Moses (also gone too soon) played sports with Mark in the neighborhood in Selden. I was good friends with his sister, Sue Ann. And Debbie, I remember you, too, and I'm so sorry for your loss ❤️. I extend my condolences to the rest of the Comneck clan. Love, Randi

There are just no words to express the sadness that we feel with the passing of our beloved cousin Mark. I have such wonderful memories of times that we shared growing up. Mark, or better known as Marky Mayo, was kind and funny. When he moved to Texas to live by George and me, we had many great times. He always hosted great Halloween parties with Debbie. More recently, we got to visit in Florida this past summer. I will treasure the memories I have with my cousin. I am so proud of the incredible man that he became. Debbie my heart breaks for you. We love you Mark and know that you are at peace in Heaven.

Mark was the best principal I ever worked with. He was a strong yet kind leader, and teachers and students looked up to him. Our failure rate dropped dramatically under his direction, and he focused on each individual student's needs and motivation. In the last year before Angleton Middle School West was united with Middle School East, our state scores exceeded expectations. But more than that his caring attitude toward his faculty and students was most appreciated. When I went to work at Region 4, I often talked to teachers about the wonderful experience I had working with the best principal ever. He has left a legacy of education, leadership, and kindness that is eternal.

Mark was one of the best men I have ever known. He was a true gentleman, and funny, kind, and caring. I only had the privilege of knowing him a little over 5 years, but, Deb, you and I go way back. My heart still cries for you, but just imagine the excitement when we're all in Heaven together again. I love you and pray for God's peace that we can't understand to cover you. He's not here, but he'll never be forgotten!

From the first moment I met Mark, I knew he was an exceptional person. He was kind, funny, and such a gentleman. I worked for Mark for 5 years and have to say he was the best boss/friend ever. He always had my back and I trusted him completely. He is missed greatly, but Praise
GOD, I know we will meet again!

Mark and I moved to Texas at the same time in 1981. He was one of my first friends in Lake Jackson, and fortunately remained a good friend for over 40 years. The good times that we shared for the 9 years we worked /played together are forever embedded in my memory. I think Mark and I shared the same philosophy - we put in a good days work, and made use of our 'play' time as well. My memories will always include smiles and laughs. Deb - I'm glad that we also got to share some years together before I moved away, and I'm thankful that we were able get together off and in recent years. I will think of you guys often. Jack

They say the legacy of friendship is not the tears shed when you're gone, but the smiles and fun shared when you were here. Mark was all about smiles and fun.

We'll never forget all the great times we had together -- Lizard soccer, New Orleans Jazz Fest, floating the Frio River, Jimmy Buffett concerts, crawfish boils, Wurstfest, Super Bowl parties, etc.

At the time we knew we were having fun. What we didn't realize is that we were making memories of a lifetime....memories we will never forget.

We love you "coach" Mark and will greatly miss you.

Our deepest sympathies to Debbie and the entire Comneck family

Love,
Jeff & Sandra

Words alone cannot express the love and memories we have of Mark (and the rest of the Comneck family-Debbie, Matt & David). We don't know how you feel, and won't pretend to. But do know we love y'all. We have so many happy memories of the four of you. (Jimmy Buffett is one of those great time) Mark was always so happy to put everyone at ease with a joke or a hug. He had such an amazing laugh and personality! We love y'all and we are praying for you as you go thru this difficult time.
