Dorothy was many things,: a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, a great-great-grandmother, a sister, an aunt, a daughter, but above all of these things she was a follower of Christ. She lived her life for others, as evidenced by long-time volunteer work with Brazosport Hospital. Her love for animals was paramount. She loved all her dogs and cats and would never turn away a stray. She was a prominent and active member of the Velasco Baptist Church, and then First Baptist Church of Freeport. She loved her family in Christ as much as her own.
Dorothy was born February 6, 1930 to Charles Paul and Josephine "James" Oliver Marshall in Austin, Texas. She was raised alongside her sister, Paula, and her brother, Charlie. Her family relocated to Velasco, Texas when she was a young girl. Growing up she played volleyball and was a twirler in the marching band. In 1948 she married Francis Melvin Murphy and later gave birth to 5 beautiful daughters; Karen, Rhonda, Darla, Dawn and Scarlet who would become her entire world. Dorothy was blessed with 10 grandchildren who adoringly called her Mimi. She was even lucky enough to meet her 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild who all loved their Grammy to the moon and back. In 1986 Dorothy graduated with an associate degree in applied science from Brazosport College and went on to work for Texas Gulf Bank in Lake Jackson, TX for 29 years until she retired at the age of 76.
She is preceded in death by her parents Charles Paul and Josephine "James" Oliver Marshall; sister Paula Gaines; brother, Charlie Marshall; ex-husband, Francis Murphy; Her beloved daughters, Karen Murphy and Rhonda Poje; and grandson, Chad Brandt.
She is survived by her daughters, Darla Phillips (Jackie), Dawn Yntema (Steven), and Scarlet Hoogakker (Doug), her 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews and their families.
Pall Bearers will be Jackie Phillips, Steven Yntema, Charles Fielding, Eric Poje, Cameron Phillips and Gerrit Yntema.

So many fond memories of the Murphy Clan. Dorothy was the glue that stuck everybody together. She was a true Gem and like a second mother to me growing up. A beautiful soul inside and outside. One of a kind for sure! Big hugs and prayers to Darla, Dawn and Scarlet. ❤️ Kay

Aunt Dorothy was a friend of my mother Patricia Murphy and my Sister-in-Law of father John Kermit Murphy. I was born in Freeport. My mother adored Aunt Dorothy and they talked throughout the years. Aunt Dorothy passed on the same day as my mother two years ago Nov 5. May they both rest inpeace with the Lord.

Mother Murphy. Such a huge person in my life. Loved me regardless. We had a ton in common; We loved life and red lipstick! Gave me guidance when needed. Took me in as a step daughter while growing up with Scarlet and into our adult lives. I will always cherish our memories together. I love you ❤️

What an incredible person. Working with her for many years made going to work very enjoyable. I will miss her smile and laughter. God bless Dorothy.
