Mr. Davenport sold me my senior ring, sold my husband my engagement ring and wedding band, sold us our children's baby rings, and many other memorable pieces of jewelry. It was always like walking into a family store with Mr. & Mrs. Davenport, then Tobey. I saw Mr. Davenport recently at the nursing home and both my husband and I spent some time talking with him about the "good ole days". He will be rejoicing to be reunited with his wife and will probably be asking the Lord what He would like for him to do till the Rapture. I can't imagine him being still. He blessed his family and now the Lord is blessing him. Another person who molded the history of our area is gone--but only temporarily, and he will not be forgotten.

The Last Moment
Then comes the moment of saying good by.
Now it's the end, you stop asking '' Why?''.
You search your mind for things never said.
Strength comes from friends and tears that you shed.
What now has to be, you know's for the best.
It is hard to let go, but now he can rest.
Hold to the moments that all of you shared.
The Lord now is waiting, with a place He has prepared.

To the Davenport family:my deepest condolences on the death of your Father & Grandfather.Lee's Jewelers was the first business that opened up a credit account for me and I always will be thankful for that..Once,years ago, I was at their Radio Shack and my credit card was declined and Mr Davenport told Mike to go ahead and give me whatever I wanted but that was the type of man he was ,He cared for the community, He always carried himself with dignity and I always respected him and his sons. A Freeport icon has gone to rest.

Freeport was fortunate to have Mr. Davenport as a long-time resident. I know of no individual that dedicated more to the City of Freeport. When others lost faith in Freeport, Mr. Davenport and his family stood firm in support of the city. All of us that call Freeport home owe Mr. Davenport a great debt for his continued dedication.
